234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

geez ... you must be buying barrels by the pallet . some of those rounds you might be able to work up a couple loads , then the barrel would be cooked .....

that said , awhile back I was looking at a 284 win reamer and was thinking that a guy might be able to sink the reamer in and make a chamber fairly similar in size to the 7mm stw , a guy would just have to machine out the belt portion of the chamber later .
a guy might be able to do a full length 375 h&h case necked down to .23 , with the .23x284 neck and shoulder measurements .

Actually Burnt I'm making the barrels.............What are you trying to build. a 23 STW 35 deg imp? Could do that too.........Don't let people tell you a barrel is burnt out in 500 rounds, it just ain't so. I've gotten more than 10,000 rounds each out of 2 different 243s before they totally quit shooting.

Doug.......got lots of full length H&H based cases thanks.

I was kind of thinking out loud with the 234 stw ..... do they even make powder that would burn slow enough ?

what kind of groupings where you getting before you finished off the 243's ?

More like a 93 year-old former redhead than a dead blonde, I don't get that analogy. Between you and kamlooky, trying to figure out what's being said makes my head hurt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:p

How old are you? In your avatar, you are either an old dude who should "get it" or a puppy dressed for Halloween, who had to google Maureen and Marilyn... at any rate, the analogy pre-supposes that both of the subjects are in their "prime"... O'Hara would be long, lean and racy... Monroe would be short and curvy... make sense now?

Hoyt......never mind 90 gns how about 100 and 110 grns........BCs right up with the 6.5s...........Of course you like the 23-08, you love all things based on the 308.........Right?

Correctemundo, Douglas...

Personally, I buck the current trend of the longest possible for caliber bullet... I want to make use of the case in the velocity department as well as energy, but with less regard for "wind bucking" or "LR accuracy..." Truth be told, I ain't going to shoot that far and anything I'm holding in my hands will be overly sufficient for the critter the crosshairs are on... But I DO like the idea of a gun that will shoot 0-300 yards and never be outside an oreo cookie!

That's me in my avatar picture and I am not a young man. I still never heard of Maureen O'Hara (and yes I did the google thing)............but thanks for the explanation!

And how about that .23 Penguin eh!!!!

Doug

More like 6 figures actually. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/ferrari/testarossa/1640718.html

Keep it to the subject man, no one cares about your mid-life crisis. ;)

What someone asks and what selling prices actually occur are. 2 different things, as Bearkillr pointed out. :)

And hey, it wasn't me that brought up Ferraris. I just commented to Brybenn that they are cheaper than most think. I was blown away that I could actually afford to buy Sonny Crocketts car if I really wanted too ! :)

In North America I believe caliber is designated by the actual bore diameter measured in thousands of an inch, not the bullet diameter. .30 caliber is .30 caliber, not .308 caliber.

This also gets confused when the term 'caliber' and 'cartridge designation' is being used interchangeably.

I'm sorry I brought this up.... but thanks for your input.

now let us move on... c-fbmi's mind is made up on this, I doubt any historical info can change his mind..... :nest: as there is contrarian info out there also, and the ODG aren't around to defend what they wrote in the books....

but from now on, I'm going to call my '06 handi a 31-06! and my 30-30 will now be the 31-30. :ang3

there that's cleared up, now on with the project....

I LOVE the idea of a 0.234inx55mm round..... the x55 has always appealed to me.

too bad I'm not smart enough to put a barrel on a gun yet.

soon, I hope though.

This is a GREAT thread/Project.

Miley Cyrus?

Nope, long before that, and Burnt-Servo nailed it--Lana Turner.
And she certainly deserved the title!
Oops, sorry Douglas. I didn't mean to get off the subject, but some subjects ------------
