24" vs. 26" for .338 win mag

No Need for a 26" tube on a 338 win, 24" is perfectly fine.There is only about a 50fps gain with a 26" tube

Got a Savage from P&D in .338, shoots Winchester cheapies into 3/4"@100. Not sure of barrel length but with the wallop this round packs, who cares?

A 338 Win Mag will perform well with a 22 inch barrel, with probably 50 f/s difference to a 26 inch barrel with factory ammo. A re-loader choosing a correct powder can probably reduce that.

Had Guntech cut a .338WM from 26" to 23" for me, and it lost 60fps with the same loads, so 20fps/inch. I would go 24" over 26" every time.

Dennis I know this is off subject, but what do you think of cutting a 26" 300RUM bbl down to 24"...Would it be fine or better off keeping the 26"?

.338 is actually fairly efficient out of shorter barrels, it's not as overbore as, say, a 7mm Rem Mag. I'd personally buy the gun you like the best, if it's 24" then don't sweat it, and if it's 26" and you don't like the handling, you won't lose much by chopping it down.
