240 Weatherby

Performance wise it is identical to the 6mm-280 Imp. I built several of those many years ago... Devastating game killer with good 100 grain bullets.

I had a Mark V 240 Wby quite a few years ago. The rifle was heavy, only got about 50 fps more than my 6mm Ackley Imp, and was not as accurate.

Traded it to a guy up here for a 22 ft freighter canoe. :)

I have some old sh**y Guns kicking around in the closet in my gun room that i was going to sell and get a .240 weatherby. Looks Pretty impressive on paper. You should definitley get one and maybe if one of your buddies has a .243win it would be interesting to do some real world testing.

I did this and it oPened my eyes.

With my dads 243 running 105 amax and Reloader 17 I was running 3050. 240 with the same 105 I was running 3200 using h4831. The 240 uses 10 gr more powder to get 150fps.

Pros for the 243 more factory stuff, more brass on the shelf, better brass and better set up for shooting lots.

My S2 was a 1/2moa shooter but brass was hard to find and expensive.

IMHO if I wanted a .240 WM (I wouldn't mind having one) I would get one, never mind the many differing other calibers / opinions. --- John303.

cant believe it took you this long to reply hossone

For 150 fps over the 243, does it really have anything over the 6mm Rem? The 6mm Rem get about 100 fps faster than the 243 with only 1 grain more case capacity. Just another reason why the 6mm Rem is the ideal 243 caliber cartridge :p

Mine was fussy as well( Mark V Ultra lighweight) Velocity and group size were not what I expected.
After many range sessions I settled on a 95gr. Ballistic tip at a 3300fps and 3 shot groups of .6 moa.

It has become my favorite deer rifle, and I have used it exclusively for the past 4 seasons.

If you hunt with the 240 wby make sure you use good bullets. Neighbor here used factory ammo and bullets kept exploding on the hides.

Guntech put together a 6mm ai for me that I would never trade for a .240. I also have a 6-284 that loves hunting coyotes!
