I want to reload 58 grain v-max projectiles for my Savage 11 .243. It really likes the factory Hornady 58 grain v-max. What powder do they use? I currently have H414, but I think that would be better with heavier projectiles like the 100 grainers. What powder do you guys suggest? Would IMR 4064 work fine?

shoot a few factory rounds over the crony so you know what speed it is your chasing, might make it easier to mimic the powder type and charge

I pour 44.0 grains of IMR 4064 into a 2.035" Hornady case with a Winchester WLR primer, seat to a COAL of 2.650-2.655"...

They cruise along at about 3800 fps, and group about 3/4" @ 100m with my shaky hands.

The target shows 1 sight-in round (just off the top of target, on the paper) and 2 groups of different projectiles

One 5-shot of 58gr, one 4-shot of 90gr (bottom-center). 58gr Vmax is the top (3/4") 5-shot grouping.

Rifle is a bone-stock Savage 14 American Classic.

I too had a great load with IMR 4350 with 58gr Vmax bullets. My data was from the Lyman 48th edition, 45gr was the starting load and I had great group tightness at 47gr

I used to load 65 grain vmax's using BLC-2. Very accurate. Perhaps not the ideal powder, but it measures easily and seemed to work very well. The varmints shot with those loads seem to be impressed. I am sure it would work well for 58 grainers too. I just find that the really light .243 bullets tend to poop out too quickly.
