243 Ai

Anybody shooting a 243 AI that has chrongraphed 100gr bullets from a 24" barrel? Would be interested in some "real life data"!

Go check out the "6mmBR.com" site under the .243 info pages and you'll see some real data and copmments from the BR guys. Don't see much "improvement" other than it might lessen brass stretching. .243 Win can be made to move a bullets just fine - I'm getting 3165 out of a 95 gr Ballistic Silvertip, more than I should be able to, quite safely.

Real Life, with a 77 Ruger, 243, 22 inch barrel.
Imperial IVI, 100 grain, states on the box it goes 3100 fps.
Chronographed, five shots. Hi-- 2602, Lo--2473, Average 2540.
Set up the next five shots with my 100 grain Sierra bullets, H4831 powder.
Lo-- 3065, Hi -- 3093.
My load of H4831 was worked up in my strong Ruger, and was considerable more than Hodgdon shows in their web site loadings. They show a max of 42 grains of H4831, and a velocity of 2924!
I didn't try their max load of 42 grains, but it would be similar to the factory IVI, I chronoed that averaged 2540.
So, there is what real life looks like in the field of reloading.

My Father and I started reloading the day after we chronographed some Imperial IVI 150gr loads in our 7mm RM. I can't remember the numbers on the box, but out of a 26" barrel we were getting ~2700fps.

I have chronographed other factory ammo, and have found that they are usually quite close to claimed.


Back to the .243 AI - compare the case volume of that round to a 6mm Remington and I think you will be able to make an educated guess.
