.243 as a yote gun

Love the .243 win.

I shoot deer with it with 100gr Hornady Interlocks over IMR4350 - 4 Mulies with that load so far 2 of them large bodied 4 points.

75gr Vmax's shoot really well over IMR4895 aswell. This is my go to for pounding pooch when its windy and I leave the .204 R at home.

Have also loaded 55gr Sierra Blitzkings that shot great over IMR4895.

Im currently working on a new deer load with the 80GR TTSX. So far so good with Sub MOA results.

--------> I should add that this is in a Savage Model 11 1:9.25 twist

.243 Win is our go to for long range... we use the H 58 VM moly's and they do pass through at around 3800 fps... closer range is the 1:8 .223's with 68 BTHP's.

I don't shoot 243 any more myself but a buddy here uses one for coyotes. He is a serious hide hunter and uses 90 grain FMJ's, says it drops em dead and no hide issues. We just worked up a load for 80 FMJ's yesterday and he is out "field" testing them now. I am in agreement with him on this issue, 243 is probably best serious yote gun.

Let us know how the fmj's work. Pics are always good.

Anyone use Varget? I just picked up a Pro Hunter bbl and got lotsa Varget. A decent deer/yote is what I'll be using it for. I like the Barnes bullets but that might get costly especially if I'm not after pelts.

AS I posted previously, I exclusively use my 243 for 'Yotes. I use the Nosler 70 gr "varmint" Ballistic Tips with H335. I used 4064, 4350 and 4895 but really hit a winner with this little combo. With my rifle and consistent case prep, the groups really tightened up for me and those little pills zip along very straight.

I did with 87gr V-Max and Bergers but I get a little more accuracy and velocity out of IMR 7828SSC .

if your not keeping the pelts than the 243 will do a fine job and they wont be going very far
if you want to keep the pelts than you should use 22-250 but hit it wrong and youll be able to put your head through it
or a .223 is a popular one with barnes bullets perfect combo
