.243 ballistic coefficient?

What is a ballistic coefficient? Is it the size of a bullet? So for .243 win would it be 0.243? I'm just wondering because I want to do some longer range shooting (300-400 yards) with my savage 11 trophy hunter using 58 grain v-max for coyotes. I was in the process of using hornadys ballistic calculator. Could someone here help me out on the ballistic calculator?
Here's the info you'll need for the calculator: 3945 fps, 58 grain, max range 2000, zero range 85 yards, sight height 1.5, and do intervals of 50 yards. Thanks!

If I were you, I would check out sniper 101 on YouTube. Sounds like you may benefit from them. Many topics are covered and some explanation of ballistics and their coefficient are in there as well. If you have an I phone or an android, check out the apps Isnipe and Ballistic and they have the vast majority of bullets availible to check out and help you build some drop charts.
 
Or we could just tell him. It is a number that basically is the bullets profile of how it flys through the air, is affected by wind and such. Each bullet will have a different ballistic coefficient that when put into a ballistic program will help to determine your bullets flight path and drop.the better the BC the better the bullet slips through the air. Google Brian Litz. He has done extensive research on this stuff, written some books....etc.
 
OP - are you absolutely set on 58gr loads?

Your 11 Trophy sports the same 1:9.25 twist as my Savage10 Predator. If you do a quick search here and in the reloading/hunting forums there's a few threads showing the Savages with this twist really favour 70-90gr projectiles. I settled on 70gr Nos BTs' over some IMR4064 at an even 38grs based on a recommendation from a member here (sobo iirc). Regular 3/4" groups at a 100yds and just a hair under an 1" at 200yds. Drop between 100-200yds or beyond is negligible, but reality is if you hold fur with most Vamint Cals on a Yote you'll be where you need to at distance.

Hornadys Superformance line was inconsistant at best for me. After doing searches on here, the line seemed to be a hit or miss in terms of advertised performance with various Cals.

Thanks for the info! Who makes some good 70 grain loads? How much would they drop at 350 yards?
