Have any of you had good luck with these.243 cal 85 grain tsx rounds?

I've been debating moving to them over my nosler 95 bt's for hunting. but im worried about loosing shot accuracy. the 95's im shooting now shoot so darn well, its sad that they blow up at 100 yards or so on deer though.

I've had them out to 300 yards and landing under 1 inch at the range but i need a bullet that is going to hold up at closer ranges and not grenade because you never know where the deers going to walk out right?

These TSX rounds look like they are stronger and what not but will they shoot as well as the 95's seeing they are only 85grain rounds and have people had the same success getting them shooting well?

I use the 85gr. TSX exclusively for my .243 Win, and my .240Wby. After experiencing the same results as yourself with the Ballistic tip, I tried working up loads with 95gr. SST's ,90gr. Scirroco's and the 85gr. TSX. The SST's shot poorly in my rifles and probably would not hold together any better than the Ballistic Tips. The Swift's grouped well and are a well constructed bullet but were out performed by the Barnes. I get 3340fps from a 20" barrel (.243Win) with no signs of pressure. The .240Wby clocks in at just over 3500fps (24"barrel). Both guns shoot better than 1moa. I have been very impressed with the X-bullets performance in the field, It is a very tough bullet. All X-bullets I've recovered regardless of caliber or impact velocity retain 90-100% of their original weight. I'd rather shoot 85gr. that stays together than 95-100gr. that comes apart after impact.

My 2cents.

triple shocks usually shoot real well, you might want to try and find some of the new 80 gr Tipped TSX too. Remember the size of a deers vitals is approx 6" in diameter so you dont need varmint accuracy to be effective :) although we all like the look of small groups

Leonard,

I just tried the same thing you were talking about aout to 300 yards a few weeks ago, was shooting some 80 gr bergers with amazing accuracy but was not going to cut it with deer sized critters.

I grabbed a box of 85 gr TSXs and loaded up some Varget, accuracy was not like the match bullets but I will take 2 inch groups at 300 yards all day long as that is how they shot in groups of 3 cold bore from my rifle 1:9.25 twist

ya like last year i hit a deer with a nosler bt and it punched a 6inch hole out the ribs on the other side. can only imagine what can happen if the wind was to push the bullet into say the shoulder would do.

this gun thankfully seems to like most bullets. its a heavy barrel 243 rem700 VLS (pretty sure thats the model type)

predictable stopping power would be nice. i mean at 300 yards perhaps the BT's would hold together better but hate to risk it .

atm with this gun the bt's are cronoing 3400fps which is fast but thats the speed they like to shoot groups in and show no signs of over pressure. probably the extra inches on the barrel giving a few more fps as well here.

when i bought the gun i was just going to make it a varmenter but after hunting with it a couple seasons i really started to like it so now its my deer rifle.

I do not think you will be dissapointed with the TSX bullet performance.

The BT may be slowed down a bit a 300 yards, and sure it has killed plenty of deer sized game with this caliber, but the TSX is very much predictable, and offeres teh best of both worlds if a shot goes a stray, in to bone or shoulder.

For what its worth, I shoot a Savage 12fv in .243 and my rifle loves the 95gr SST. I get one inch groups at 100 and took my deer this past year with the set up. It was an 80 yard shot right at the chest. He took three steps and fell like the group was taken out from under him. If I remember correctly, I've got them going about 3200 fps.

85gr TSX in my buddy's 243 kill deer like lightening.... One shot last year was particularly dramatic. Frontal shot at 75 yards, deer stood for a second, just geysering blood straight out of the bullet hole and his mouth, then toppled over. The blood spray was enormous.

lol sounds like the 308 hit we had on a mule deer last year. like a garden hose with no nozel on it on both sides. i had the binoc's right on em too was pretty gruesome

the Deer i killed with my 243 last year went down hard and fast aswell but like your frontal shot your explaining could have been a giant mess with the expansion i witnessed .. 1 rib punched going in 6 out i put my closed fist though the exit hole and i had about 3-4 inches around that hole that was un usable meat due to the shock it did to the ribs .. was quite a mess.
