243 for brush hunting?

I fip the canoe rushing it happens I was les then 30 yard from wear I put the canoe in
For experience on canoe I have bin from Haida Gwaii up to Juneau Alaska on both inside passage as well as the outside passage by dugout war canoes and numerous other Ocean trips to Alaska such as kodiak island its not fare from Haida Gwaii
I have surf in small canoes in gale's off shore of Haida Gwaii and ran quit a few rivers in northern BC
There is not many mountains or glaciers I haven't walk on from Prince Rupert to the Yukon bourder
My point is just to use a rife that uses ammo that is readily available any wear and 243 falls into the that category

243 is really available pretty much anywhere bud....... not saying it would be my first bush gun choice, but it sure isn't hard to find.......

I do admire some of the canoe trips you have posted though.....

As a Ruger fan, SB, you should give an M77 RSI or M77 Frontier a try... really handy and accurate platforms.

I know you don't cherish them........ but I absolutely love my m77 compact in .243 ........ it isn't going anywhere....... it has taken two wolves and a handful of yotes and is the handiest rifle I have besides the scout......

Now, if a frontier pops up in 358 all bets are off, the Whelen goes up for sale and my first born may or may not be included based on the deal....... :)

I have had a number of compacts... the kids all started with them... in .223, .243, 7mm-08, .308 and 7.62X39... I liked them alot... but eventually they succumbed to the RSI's when I thinned the herd.

This is whatI think a bush rifle shood be I have to find a peepsignt for the 308 then it will be perfect
With the scope it's shooting 4" high way to high
for a bush rifle I like to sight it in at 1.5' high @ 25 yards
I want to get a T/C Contender G2 for a mounten rifle next

If you are hunting with a .243 at the ranges indicated, use the heaviest bullet that your gun will stabilize and have at 'er. I use a .243 BLR as a mixed country deer rifle as I will still hunt throughout the day in the standing timber then sit on the edges in the evening. I have hit them at close range through brush with 100 grain partitions with nary a problem and I have hit them in the open at ranges I would rather not mention. A good optic whereby you can see that clear path to your target is a big thing here as threading the needle beats busting through the brush in effectiveness any day.

I know a older gentleman who uses a BLR 243 as his rifle of choice when they run the hounds. The BLR is very fast for follow up shots and majority of his shots are within 70 yards. He swears by 100 grain Winchester power points.

I would think the lesser recoil of the 243 in something like the BLR would allow the shooter to get back on target even quicker should a second shot be required.

I just picked up a straight stocked BLR in 308 to go with my stainless BLR pistol grip in 243. I think either one will work fine for my application ( shots will be 30-50 yrds deer will be pushed by hounds ) The pistol grip feels a little better in the hand as upposed to the straight grip model. Decisions decisions. When it comes to deflection I have had a 180 grain 308 round deflect at 30 yards so im convinced if you fire a round into brush it is NOT going to hit where you intended weather its a 243,308,30-06.

I have used 243 on deer all have bin bang flop
Seen my Buddy kill 3 moose with 243 all 3 wear bang flop And shot under 100 yard
A set of BLRs in 243 and 308 is a killer combination
