.243 Qestions...*Follow Up, Post #26*

Me and both my daughters plus 3 guys at work shoot the 243. We all shoot either 90 or 95 grain partitions or Nosler Bt. Girls like the purple tips. Guys at work are having great luck with the new Nosler E tip in 90 Gr, and the Hornady GMX in 80 Fr. We've killed a pile of mule and WT deer and the cartridge works great!

I only shoot 100 grain bullets and there are not much deer up here so its Caribou or Elk and the last Winchester Silvertips went though the caribou, broadside and lengthwise! I did find a box of Speer Nitrex with the 100 grain Grand Slam bullet, I am thinking they will do very well!

Just for more info on the Tikka twists, I have a T3 varmint HB in .243, and I get awesome results with 90 scenars and 90 berger target BT's.

70 SMKs are my next favorite. You'll love that T3 hunter!

Thank you for the info about the two other non lead bullets...adds to the shopping list. :)

I love my .243 too. It's a lovely Sako Aii that I picked up from TradeEx just about a year ago:

I hunted with it last season, walking the logging cuts here on Vancouver Island,
and although I wasn't lucky enough to see a blacktail buck (they call them the 'Ghosts of the Pacific' for a reason),
it sure was a joy to carry.

Other posters have mentioned the inherent accuracy of the .243 and I have to agree.
At 100 yds, my lil Sako wants to put cheap Federal Powershock 100 grain soft-points into the same hole.
So yes, there's a lot to like about these cute lil rifles .. :)

Having praised the .243 however, if I ever win an elk draw then I'll use either my .270 or .308 or .30-06
Yes, the .243 might do the job .. but my other gals in the safe need to feel useful too .. lol.

My Savage just loves the 87gr VLD's on top of 47.8gr of IMR 7828 SSC @ 3200fps. 5 drop in their tracks deer kills including one very respectable 4x4 mule deer. Numerous other deer with Federal PS 80gr SP in my T/C Encore .243. Great cartridge IMHO.
