I would go for the 308 over any 243.

I have seen too many deer wounded with the 243, they just don't have the knock down power of the 30 cal.s

Many will argure this point but in my opinion the 243 is over rated.

Everyone know that 243 is a good cal for deer, but out there is not just deer. I do take a .308 over 243. You will get more bullet choice if you reload.

I have taken several caribou with a 6mm Rem (say a half dozen). Bullets used 85 grain Nosler Partition/ 105 Speer Spitz and 90 grain X.

I have taken many more with two .308 Carbines(say two dozen). 150/165 Hornady's and 150 or 165 Nosler Partitions

The .308 is far more capable over the long haul. In fact it is a fantastic caribou killer up to 300 yards. Until the rule changes here in the NWT I switched to a Steyer Scout in .308 so I could take five at a time without reloading. Never had a dissapointment.

The biggest difference in killing power is with marginal hits. The 308 always anchors the boo even with a hit to far back. The 6mm has less anchoring power on marginal hits but seems to kill about as well when I do my job correctly. Also out at 300 yards the 308 kills better.

Lest you think I am a big bullet lad the 358 Winchester is a poor killer at 300 yards with many bullets as they don't expand well at reduced velocity.

Bullets make a difference with the 6mm and the partition is the only way to go though I'm switching to 95 or 100 grainers for my wifes new 6mm Rem 600.

Very little, if any difference as long as you place your shot but the .308 probably has a slight edge.
Almost 80 grains of bullet weight advantage!!
HoweverI just don't like the 243 Winchester.
The 6mm Rem is a better design of cartridge, IMHO, but that is just my opinion..
