.243 vs .308

I killed 6 deer so far this year with the 243. The only 1 that required a second shot was a bedded buck shot in the neck @ 150 yards. If the shot is in the boiler room, a deer out to 400 yards is dead with the 243. I handload and I have been using 95 gr Nosler Partitions and it is "almost" overkill on WT and Mule deer. I shot a big mulie doe @ 200 yds and the bullet entered behind the third rib and exited "through" the offside shoulder blade. It was a mess to say the least. All the meat was blown off the shoulder blade and the exit hole was as big as a softball. I think people that doubt the 243 are not hitting the vitals. I "used" to use a 30 cal bullet on deer and in my expierence the 243 is just as effective and it has a nice flat trajectory. I love my 243 and it is the most accurate and pleasurable rifle I have shot. Shot placement is everything, unless you "need" a magnum or WSM to kill "thin skinned", "light boned" animals.:runaway:
