243 win 105 berger vld, dead elk 688 yards

Here is one of those "...long-range type..." hunting infomercials ....VERY similar to Greybull BSin.

Best of the West which is the one on wild t.v.

Watch the video and SPOT the flaw...

Of course they will never show the videos of where they miss...or worse yet wound and fail to recover.....only the success stories make it to youtube.

What is the next step..... hunting with laser beams from your living room via satellite...

There is no flaw if you listen to the dialogue and understand how TV shows are made.

We hear him shoot and eject the case. Then he says " 2 to the boiler room and he drops"

There are 2 empty cases beside him.

The initial scene where he is seen "readying himself for the shot" is TV show stuff. They go back and film stuff after the fact for dramatic appeal. Like when you see a guy holding a bow at full draw, or see him lining up behind a scope. They do that after the animal is dead. :)

So he shot the moose twice, said out loud that he shot it twice, we see 2 spent cases next to him after the moose falls over....Only flaw is that they edited out the first shot, but it's not like he tried to cover up he took 2 shots.

So why edit out the first shot, was it too good for TV? ;)

This is what the production team had to say. Nothing is hidden here, they say outright he shot it twice.

You are right, John made two shots on the moose to be ethical. In the interest of time, I left the first out, but we wanted to make sure the truth of John shooting twice in the vitals was left in, so If you watch carefully, John rolls over and says, "Two to the boiler room, and flopped over on his back!" The cutaway with John on the gun with two empty brass on his pack was re-enactment footage.
Thanks for watching, we appreciate your feedback,

Sold my Sako, gotta EMT Bartell money to get me in a .223 Montana, should be fun for winter yotes (not like I ever have a gun handy when I see them).

I wonder if a .223 at 688 yards is ethical for yotes?

I guess that answers the question?

Sounds like a cover up after the fact.....but I will give the benefit of the doubt....

Funny thing is....this guy missed out on all the excitement of hunting Moose.

Every Moose I ever shot was under 6o yards.....the closest being 6.....with a Bow.

When hunting in the rut there is no need for 900 yard shot....a few grunts would have brought that Bull right in....

In your version of moose hunting he missed out on something. You ever think he looks at your statements and figures YOU missed out on moose hunting? Think about it and realize there is more than one way skin a cat or kill a moose.

ROFL. Yeah, he missed out on dragging that bugger an extra 900 yards!

Compare this video to the Huskemaw video and tell me again the latter hunter didn't miss out on something. Especially interesting to note is the difference in excitement after the shots between the hunters.

We all like shooting. We all like hunting. Some of us like guns/shooting a bit more than we like hunting. Others like hunting a bit more than they care about guns/shooting.

If you're one of the former, you'll enjoy LR hunting just as much as close-range hunting.

If you're one of the latter, then LR hunting won't give you near the thrill that shooting game up close will.

That's the way I see it. Neither way is "wrong" or "better", it's just a matter of personal preference. Whichever way you choose, make sure you are proficient enough to kill what you shoot at nearly every time (everybody makes the odd mistake, regardless of the distance).

Good god man!... I wish I would have said this a few dozen posts ago... great post!

Whats to miss out on his experience???

Please explain???

I could get the same thrill shooting a steel gong at 900 yards...???

Obviously IF you haven't called in a Moose and shot it at close range then you probably don't know what I am talking about.....the noises they make when they come to the call....the grunting....the smashing of trees....you have to experience that.....then make your comments.

there is no comparison.....

One is target shooting/hunting......the other is REAL hunting....Yes both result in meat in the freezer....but you cannot argue CLOSER is MORE exciting....
