Hello,
I'm a bit confused about cartridges and their capabilities.

Is it reasonable/possible to just load 308 to have lighter recoil and maintain the same killing abilities as say a 243 rather than buying a 243?

same question for other calibers like 25-06 and 30-06.

The .308 can be loaded light for a recoil sensitive shooter while maintaining enough power for deer sized game. I load 125-130 gr bullets to 2600 fps in my .30/06 when I take a new shooter under my wing. These loads shoot similarly to a 180 gr factory load out to 300 yards. IMHO, this trumps any loading in the .243.

A full powered .25/06 approaches the potential of the .270, so the .30/06 is only an advantage on very heavy game when loaded with heavy for caliber bullets.
