.243?

Take it

If I remember correctly the Remington has a 1-9 twist which will stabilize the long and heavy 105gr. A-Max bullets. I have one in a BDL varmint and really like it. As mentioned before you can pickup bullets for them cheap at gun shows as not many people show much interest. I think I have something like 15-20 boxes of bullets at present.

Mild recoil, accurate, easy to load and readily available components are the best attributes of the 243.

.243 can do it!!

I have a 6mm Remington in a Ruger M77 Target and it shoot amazing for how old it is and how it was shot before I knew anything. Mine is a 1-12 twist and it will not shoot 105s or 107 or 95 Bergers the best I found was a 95 Nosler SBT with IMR 4064. It will paint the odd group at .25 at 100 but always .5 (that is 5 rounds)(yes). The two are very comparable. With that load it takes me 38 Minutes to get to 1000 yards. If it is the right price I would by it. If you end up not liking the cal. or it shoots like a 12gauge then you have a awsome action to re-barrel.:D

by rebarrel you mean i can just change the barrel and use the same action for a diffrent cal. or do i missunderstand?

You bet! there is a cost but you get better tolerances meaning better accuracy. You can also get it in the same cal. One thing you should know is that you will only be able to recamber to a short action caliber. That is 308 6mm 223 243 there are many. If you get that far by taking to the gunsmith he will let you know wich ones. Don't go and do it right away thought shoo the crap out of it and see how it preforms. Being that it is a .243 it will problably have a 9'' twist or a 10''. With that you can stablize the heavier bullets. Shoot and see you won't be disapointed, its a Remington 700!!

What would you use it for? It is a good hunting rifle for everything up to deer sized game. It could do larger animals with a well placed shot.

The cartridge is a barrel burner so, while it can be made to shoot accurately, it would be something you would see degredation of its accuracy after 1500 rounds or so
