All, just looking for some input.

IF a person had a 1-8 twist, which in all research shows that it is ideal for 105 gr pills..... NOW.... IF a person wanted to use say 88 gr bergers, or 90 grain Lapua scenars, what is the ramifications of using these smaller pills with the twist - berger states 1-10 for 88gr, 1-9 for the 95gr. And I would assume 1-10 or 1-9 for the 90gr lapua.

Would these bergers blow apart with the 1-8 twist?, would the velocity drop and/or increased pressures due to the twist?

Opinions? Obviously most ideal would be to match the twist with the bullet, but i would like to know if anyone has had a situation like this and how it turned out.....

I have a 1:8 .243, and have fired a variety of bullets through it. No problem with lighter bullets, actually easier to get it to shoot well than with the 105s & 107s.

youll be fine running the lighter bullets, they are easier to stablize, just might need to adjust velocity to suit. i think youd have apretty hard time pushing the 90gns fast enought to worry about them blwing apart

Is there any

effect on velocity? The smaller grain bullets, will they acheive the same velocity as say with the 1 in 10? does the twist scrub some speed off?

Remember your 55gr 22-250 improved? heavier bullets are great but going fast does get rid of a variety of ills.

The really heavy for cal bullets do not like flying much over 3000fps. Especialy with thin jackets common to VLD bullets.

Lighter bullets can thrive at speeds as high as 3800fps. There is really only one way to find out.

It think the Hrn 87gr Vmax would be a hoot to zap out to yonder hill.

Me thinks, you know which hills I am refering to :)
