.243 with a good bullet is fine for black bear.

Black bears are pretty easy to kill. I think she will be fine. I find blackies easier to kill than whitetails.

I killed quite a few bears with a 243. Neck shots though. The one time I tried a chest shot that bear fell down, jumped up onto its hind legs puking and ran off never to be seen again. In retrospect I think I probably gut shot it as it was moving forward as I shot for the chest.

The 243 is an awesome bear cartridge, best there is. We all know shot placement trumps everything. Did someone else mention that yet....... or can I be first ?

My wife took her black bear with her 243 and 100 grain Remington CoreLok's. One shot, down!

My wife took her first bear broadside with a 95 sst. It went 5 yards from where it was hit

On blck bear your good to go. I take 2 a year usually. 243 3030 or 308

A good 100g bullet can be as deadly as a broadhead. The .243Win cartridge can propel it as well as a bow. Within the effective range, as long as the user of either can shoot accurately the bear will die in short order.
