25/06 for moose

200 Yards NO WAY in the areas I,ve hunted , its very very hard to get an open area as long as 200 yards and even then the 25-06 is a little light in the bullet wieght too start ploughing through bush with !!
I,ll stick with my 30-06 x 180 g. Silver Tip thank you - I wonder how far those animals shot with 25-06 traveled after being hit ? I,ve had moose travel 50 yards after 4 hits with a 30-06 X 180 and ALL shots were kill shots / NO heart or Lungs Left !!
JUST My 2 Cents --CJ-Jim

My sons both shot their first moose with a 25/06 Ruger.Using a 115gr nosler partition .

120 grain xbullet, partition, GS, Aframe, basically any high quality controlled expansion bullet and a good lung shot will kill any moose. Don't let inferior or inexperienced marksmen tell you any different. Bigger calibers afford you a little more margin for error but regardless of energy and velocity you must still make good shots on big bulls or you will have problems.

Hell yes at any range out to 400 yards. My son nuked a 3pt bull elk at that range with a 120gr Hornady handload and it took out a rib entering and another exiting.Simply laid down after trotting 50 yards.Moose are big targets and easy to kill. You have a kill zone the size of most color TV's! I dropped a big moose with a 250 Savage, not ideal, but the shot was perfect.
So, the 25-06 would do the job, again not ideal but it will work when conditions are perfect..........shot placement.

I bought a used 3 shots missing from box Rem 788/.223 that a sleasy gun store salesman sold a woman as a gift moose rifle for her husband.Well being short on cash and needing groceries he bought a box of UMC /FMJ's and proceeded to fire one shot to check the sights .The following morning one went into a bull moose's hump and one more through his brain for good measure. Then he sold me the gun with plans to upgrade the next fall.............You don't need a howiter just shoot staight.............Harold

I've taken two cows at 200 yards plus/minus with a .257 Roberts so I think you're pretty safe.
Put one just behind the front shoulder, light up a smoke and after about 10 minutes go pick up your moose.

...so what if things go a little wrong. Say you have a slight quartering away shot, and you place it a little far forward and hit the shoulder. I guess the most likely situation is that the shoulder gets broken. But are the chances of deflection starting to go up as you go to smaller bores?

I haven't seen that many moose shot - only one myself and helped out a couple of other guys. Certainly I've seen a shoulder smashed by a 308 coming in straight from the side. I have no doubt that a 25-06 would do the same coming right from the side too but I'd wonder about shots on a bit of an angle.
