25-06 loads

I have not done much work with it yet, but so far H4831 and Hornady 117g SST's are looking good in my Stevens 200. I only tried 2 loads and one was just under 2" and the other put 3 inside of an inch. I picked up a couple of boxes of cheap 100 FB and 117 BTSP Sierras at a gun show, so this summer I plan on shooting a bunch.

I see 'Modern Reloading' Second Edition has a load for 100gr jacketed and IMR4227. Has anyone used this load?
Any other favorite powders/loads for the 25-06?

What is the loading, of IMR4227? That powder is MUCH, MUCH too fast for anything but the very lightest of loads, in a 25-06. 4227 is about like 2400 and not much slower than the common pistol powder, Unique.

My Ruger heavy barrel 25/06 likes 100 gr speer boatails w/ H-4831
100 gr hornady sp point w/ H-4831
100 gr nosler ballistic tip w/H-4831
115 gr nosler partition w/H-4831

100 gr hornady sp point w H-4350

100 gr hornady sp point w/IMR 7828
100 gr speer boatails w/ IMR 7828

120 gr nosler partition w/Reloader 22

All of these bullets have good groups in this gun.

Range report: -20C, friggin' cold for load testing!

26.5grn IMR4227 w/ .257 Hornady 100gr SP Interlock.
Three shots over the crony - 2426, 2413, and 2420. Three shots on paper @ 100 yards - 1", two shots touching (I hope one was a flyer!). Very light recoil and report.
28grn IMR4227 = 2468 and 2470 fps.
I had some other loads to test, so that was as far as I got with it.

I just picked up some 75gr Hornady Vmax bullets and some H4350 powder for my Stevens 200. The stated max load according to Hodgdon is 58.5gr for 3700 fps. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of accuracy this load produces.

So far one of the best loads I've run through mine is the Sierra 117gr SBT using IMR 4350. I shot a three shot group at 185 yds that measures 0.486". If you're interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a scan of the target and the reload info.

Best load for my Sako quarterbore is 48.5gr IMR 4350 pushing a Hornady 120 gr. hollow point flat base. This load is near max. and shoots sub MOA any day. Great for shooting long range plates and have killed many whitetails with this load as well.

Great Thread:cool:
Did the 120 hold up, and what kinda wound channel (meat damage) ?
Thanks:)

Never recovered one complete but only small copper bits and pieces. The wound channel produced is quite substantial. I never shoot running deer as I only post and snipe these days. Would not want to hit one wrong with these pills... then one does not want to hit a deer wrong with any pill. Through the "boiler room" the Horn 120 HP will secure even the biggest whitetail within a few yards... my experience has shown.
