25-06 loose primer pockets

when reloading some 25-06 fireformed ackley brass I noticed a few loose primers, has anyone noticed wlr primers being looser than others? I started with new win brass 25-06, loaded 47g of IMR 4350 behind a Sierra 100 gameking for fireforming. The next loading I have some loose pockets. The load is a starting load for that round so I shouldnt be stretching brass, any thoughts? Has anyone found other brands of primers to fit tighter?

Try CCI primers. They are slightly larger and may fit better.
If you think the brand you have is too loose, fire a couple of them. If you see a black smear around the primer pocket, that would indicate there was a pressure leak. No smear, no leak. Maybe the ones you have are fine. Do the primers come out pancake flat after they are fired?
Winchester is my first choice in brass for most reloading, so I doubt if that is the problem.

I have had the same with rem brass as well,blew a primer and stuck the damned ejector compressed the spring as well.I have two savage 25-06's and have to watch loads or this is common.winchester primers were used.If the primer goes in too easy it gets tossed.

Hey handloaderbc the primers are still perfectly rounded on the corners, there is no signs of pressure and there shouldnt be since its a starting load.
I dont mind throwing away brass but these have only been loaded for one light fireform. If thats the case I have no way to form brass.

The symptoms you suggest might be too light of pressure in your fireforming loads rather than too much pressure. someone did up a great explanation of this in another thread a while back. Basically (if this is happening - only you can tell for sure) your case is not being forced against the bolt head with enough force to keep the primer in place and it's backing out on firing. Would look like a loose primer. The reason I suspect this is that your primer still is "prefectly rounded at the edges."

I rounded up some primers from friends this weekend and found that the blue box Winchester large rifle magnum primer is about .0015" (.2055)smaller than the old white box Winchester large rifle standard(.207). The white box Winchester large rifle magnum measured .206. Hope this helps some of you, an going to measure some at the sporting goods store on Tuesday.

exactly what I use in my 25-06AI Cooper, CCI BR2 and Win brass. I had issues with Fed primers not wanting to seat, they were actually deforming when I forced them, the CCI's seated fine.
