Using the Barnes 100 gr. TSX as an example, being pushed to top velocities and having a 200 yard zero, it will drop about 2.5" less with the 257 Wby than the 25-06 at 400 yards.
Only you can define what is considered significant. Generally, expect 200-250 fps faster speeds with any given bullets of the same weight in top loads.
I had both and kept the Weatherby, personal preference.
Might as well add John Lazzeroni's .25 cal mag to the mix, it like the .257 STW almost had 15 seconds of fame before slipping into obscurity.
JP. your Salvage .25-06 is quite possibly the ugliest pos ever turned out by any gun maker. Only someone who is legally blind could somehow end up with it, go down to your Wallmart asap and get your eyes checked

With the Savage, agreed, beauty was never its claim to fame however the bang for the buck accuracy is. But with your 'King claim

I've not used the Lazzeroni, but I have owned the 25-06, 257 Wby, and 257 STW. They push same weight bullets a little faster at each level (bigger boiler rooms). Each shoots a little flatter then it's smaller cousin, but burns more powder (and barrels) to do it. I guess it boils down to how fast do you want to go? - dan

For me, my experience with the 25-06 has been the exact opposite. With virtually the first handloads I put through it, I got accuracy beyond my expectations. I did extend the C.O.A.L. as much as possible to minimize the freebore but beyond that, the load I used and started out with was right out of the Sierra manual. I've posted this previously, witnessed by my shooting partner, pardon the homemade target.
After seeing how well a pair of Savage rifles my Daughter and Son In Law got in 22-250 perform, I thought I'd go for something similar. I did put decent glass on it, a Leupold VX III, 6.5-20 Long Range with Varmint reticle. No complaints. A fairly inexpensive rifle, a Savage 112BVSS, but it does perform.
Just going through the new posts john, and I just realized that group was fired at 185 yds
! Great shooting Rifle and theres no flies on the Rifleman either

. While not the 'cutest' item in my gun safe by any stretch of the imagination, I don't know if any of the others can consistently surpass the accuracy. And again, bang for the buck, none I have beat it and to be fair, the glass on it has probably helped out considerably. The target posted is one of my best but on a regular basis, at 100 yds, groups considerably less than the size of a dime are a regular occurance. A lot of the load work-up 'fun' went by the wayside with the Savage as virtually the first loads I put through it struck paydirt.
A friend of mine has just acquired a second Ruger No. 1 in 25-06 and has offered to sell me one. Bottem line for what I want from the 25-06, I can't see it beating what I already have and the value is probably double. So,
I'll stick with the ugly duckling.

If, in your quest to 'hail the king', the tu tu fits, wear it. Go to your favorite shopping certre, Walmart, get your new glasses so you can see the school grounds when you get there. And while you missed your chance to be 1st 'Princess' in the 'King Quest', with your shinning personality and a lot of work all is not lost.
You could still make it as 'Miss Congeniality'.

It's apparent from all the feedback the OP has got here from owners of both, it is a hard decision to make if it's going to be a Hunting Rifle that will probaly not get fired a whole lot.
The 25-06 would be the more efficient choice as expressed by handloaders, with its more favourable expansion ratio. But to the non handloader, if the Weatherby Cartridges are readily avaliable at not more than 60 percent over the 25-06, go for it I say, it is a classic. If you handload in the future, then you will burn considerbly more powder to get those few FPS.
If efficiency is your game, get the turbo diesel(25-06),it does 90% of the GTi(.257WM) if absolute performance is your game ,maybe the GTi would be a better choice in the same Car.

Nothing shabby about the Weatherby. After working with my Savage
I'd be hard pressed to justify changing. I 'may' be back to Terrace later this year and if so, perhaps I'll bring it.Looking a little further down the road, the Savage is one of three choices I have for an Antelope hunt in AB with in the next few years. I should, hopefully with in the next couple of years, be successful in a draw there

Well, apparently you *DO* care about mens fashion. You were the one that brought it up in this thread, asking JJ-65 if he wore pink clothing. It's just very odd that you would ask this in a gun forum.
Why dont' you just stick to the subject of 25 caliber cartridges? Why do you need to ask other men if they wear pink clothing? What is this obsession that you have about other men's attire?
