25-06 or 7mm-08

The caliber choices in the rifle I want are 25-06, 7mm-08, 308, 270, 280, and 30-06.. I want a short action and out of the 2 listed I already have one of them. I may consider a 25-06 but for now my mind is set on the 7mm-08

Good choice, you will enjoy it. :)

Unless you just want a new platform, no point in a 7mm-08... you might as well get another .308 and simplify your ammo stash...

Lol..... exactly why I bought a 7-08..... because I am fairly new to reloading and wanted another platform to try..... The scout in .308 will be my dogging rifle and the 7-08 all weather is for everything else..... The scout will shortly be equipped for short range (sight wise), and the 7-08 for "distance", and by distance, I mean Ontario distance.... I just wanted something else to develop a load for..... lol.....

I've got 2 7-08's, and 3 308's, wouldn't sell any of them. The little 7 wins in drift and drop with equal bullet weights. :)

Yeah, but you've probably got a closetful of other rifles ranging from 223 to 45-70. To only have two rifles that close for the same purpose is nearly insanity.

As mentioned, if I had already a 308, I'd go with the 25/06. it's a nice flat shooting cartridge, perfect for deer.

The 7/08 doesn't offer much if anything over the 308.

Troots mon!

If I HAD to have a short action, I'd split the difference and go with a .260. It just makes sense. The 7mm-08 for the OP, not so much....

For practical hunting during normal distances, there is not much difference, use the right bullet for your intended game and go hunt.

The one thing to consider is IF you decide to target shoot with that rifle, the 08 has heavier and better selection of bullets.
Want meat in the freezer, pull the trigger on either.

Another vote for the 7mm-08...

I'd go 7mm-08 for me.
