25-06 Rem thread. Gun + reloading recipes.

My Sako 25-06 shoots crazy tight groups with the Barnes TTSX or TSX 100 grain bullets at or near max charge of IMR4350. My go to deer load... Same rifle favors Hornady 120 grain HP at max as well. Always found this quarterbore cambering finicky to load for but when a pet load was achieved the results were delightful.

have a nice shooting load in my friiends 25-06 with 50 gr of Re 22 and 115gr TSX bullet. my Sako loves re 25 and the older Hornady 120gr bullets....FS

The older 120grHP Hornady was tested prior to introduction on elk and worked. My son took a 3pt at 400 yards with one and no problem.

It is nice to see guys talking about the 25-06! I have enjoyed that cartridge since 1989!

The 25-06 was the first cartridge I ever built, and chambered a barrel for back in 1995 with Bevan King! I still shoot that rifle, and it will never leave my possession, until one of my boys wants it when they get older.

I wish I could post a picture on this site, but ever since "photo bucket" turned on its subscribers, I never replaced the hosting site to post my pictures.

My rifle is a Ruger M77, tang safety as well.
I built a 26" medium sporter barrel (416 Stainless), with 6 flutes running from the termination point of the chamber swell to within 3/4" of the muzzle.
I had Boyds build a Prairie Hunter, nutmeg stock with a black tip and grip cap. Lazer Stippling, with a whitetail engraved just behind the bolt handle, Glass bedded the action as well.
And as a Final touch, I mounted a Leupold 4-14x50, 30mm tube, VX-III scope with a standard B&C Reticle.

Result is a pretty rifle, that shoots sub MOA about 97% of the time. The rest of the +MOA Group occurances are me screwing up my squeeze and follow through! LOL!

This rifle has accounted for a couple of my best personal big game trophies.

54 gr of re22 with a 120 gr swift aframe produced half inch groups in my 26 inch ruger no1b with a velocity of 3103, 3103 and 3111fps. Coal length of 3.1. Worked up to 55 gr of re22 but it was compressed, accuacy was impressive but velo was erratic, high of 3190 and low of 3108. Plenty of room to seat the bullet further out and try some more powder in the future but with hunting season upon us I'll stick with 54 for now.

My Daughter and Son In Law have a pair of Savage 112 BVSS in .22-250. Much impressed with how well they both shot, I opted for something similar, ;) but in .25-06. The best accuracy I got was from handloads using the Sierra 117gr SBT pushed by a top end quantity of IMR 4350. The best three shot group is 0.486", and this was at 185yds!! And, witnessed:d.

So Here’s. Mine browning bar mark 2 safari..semi auto....for some strange reason any brass ....win primers ....reloader 19 at 49.5 grains ... barns 100 gr tsx or ttsx velocity is at 2940 prints just u dear 1/2 “ groups ..magneto speed to verify velocity.....and I had
Dope out to 475 meters ..no kick fast follow up shots
And with the 75 gr bullets it’s going out at 3100 fps ....
What a sweet little toy ...pure pleasure to hunt and shoot
I have to say I got super #### lucky with this gun and load data...like super lucky

I got a stevens 200 and shoot 117gr hornady interlock spitzer at 3100fps with 51grs imr 4831 iirc and 75gr vmax at 3550fps over 49grs varget. The heavy load is slightly hot in the dead of summer but never an issue in cooler weather. Ive taken a few deer and my largest black bear along with 3 wolves and countless coyotes. I love the 2506. I need a barrel again as chasing the lands has the 117s pushed out well passed the canulure. Accuracy has really fallen off. Its a 100 yard gun now until i get a new barrel.
I plan to build a 250 savage for the lighter weights and rebarrel the 2506 properly with a 26" heavy barrel for deer and wolf and maybe another bear
Id like to try 100gr sgk and 90gr gmx eventually.
I had good results with the 117gr sst shooting into a deer carcass
My bear was shot with 120gr winchester grey box positive expanding hollow point. 80 yards just under the spine. It broke the spine and broke 7 ribs going in. No exit just copper flecks. Internal damage was excessive with alot of jelloing along the entrance side. The bear dropped with only a growl. Id love to find out what bullet they use in that load

I use to use the 120 Sierra in my 257 Weatherby with good results. Only problem now is Sierra has discontinued these bullets. Some places may have some still in stock, but once they are gone there gone. They have also deep sixed the 117 Pro Hunter. Sad

Those 120 Hornady HP's are great ,super accurate bullets, Iam pissed that they discontinued them!

So true, the old 120 Hornady HP was an awesome shooting load as they were rather inexpensive bullets but so very accurate. I loaded many hundreds of 25-06 loads with these and found them to be deadly on deer.
