25-06 rifle with detachable mag

25-06

I'm buying the gun for my wife. She has no plans in shooting big game right now (but more than likely will in the future) and i am buying it for her to start off shooting coyotes. If at some point she wants to shoot a deer, elk, or even a moose she has the option. I want to buy her a gun that she can get used to and very comfortable with. I have no need for another rifle at this point so i'm trying to buy something that has flexibility for her. I have a 17HMR,22-250,and a 7MM.

please dont send her out to shoot moose with a .25-06.
experienced hunters that know what they are doing take moose with .270s every year, but it wouldnt be wise to choose even that as a 'starting caliber' for moose for a new hunter.

even a .308 with 150 grainers has just 1-2 ft/lbs of recoil more than a .25-06 and would make a much better moose/elk gun for the recoil sensitive. there are also reduced recoil loads available for .308/.30-06 that might be suitable for closer-ranged shots and have much less recoil than either.

IMO buy a gun for coyotes, and then later if she wants to hunt elk/moose then buy/lend her a gun suitable for that.
