25/06 to a 257 wby

257 wby

You didn't say what make of rifle, some are a lot easier than others. Rem the most difficult, ruger, winch, sako, 98 all pretty easy. 26" bbl preferred.
The 257 wby is a truly outstanding cartridge, you won't be sorry. With the new powders it really shines (RL 25) Forget all the barrel burning hyperbole and have fun with the flattest shooting, least recoil gun out there. When you burn that barrel out you can put on another and go have fun for another 5000 rounds. I have owned several and never burnt a barrel out yet, never been my only rifle though. Killed a cariboo at over 400 mtrs 1 shot through both front shoulders. Current one is a 700 CDL stainless fluted and punches 110 accubonds into 1/2" as long as I do my part, I love my 257Wby !!!!

I have a Ruger #1 that was rechambered from 25-06 to 257wby. The extractor is spring loaded so the bolt face want really an issue.

bolt face, magazine, feeding etc. If you started off with a parent magnum rifle it would be a lot easier (7rm, 264 wm etc). but with enough funds and a talented Smith nothing cant be done.

The AI version is a quick set back/re-chamber and ballistics are not far behind the WBY....with quite a bit less powder. Just an option to think about.

Excepting the rem, this is a very simple conversion, on a detach mag rifle you just buy the correct mag or you can rework the lips. Opening the bolt face and reworking the action rails on most floorplate guns requires approx 1 hour work. Some rifles you don't have to touch the rails. As to your AI, I've had more grief getting the straight bodied, sharp shouldered AI's to feed smoothly without scarring cases than any Wby cartridge.
