I have shot a trainload of deer with 24, 25, 26, 27 & 28 bore rifles. There is no "magical" round. Placed correctly, they all kill with authority. the 243/6mm is light for anything big {read a large muley buck} much beyond 350 yards. I have shot numerous deer with the 257 Bob and the 25-06, and could never see any difference in effectiveness between the two. In the 6.5's, only the 264 Win Mag showed a slight range advantage over it's smaller cousins. The 270....what can I say. O'Connor knew what he was talking about. Flat and deadly on deer sized game, and very capable of taking larger prey as well. While I personally favor the 7x57 over the 7-08, the two are ballistically peas in a pod in modern actions, so what applies to one, applies to the other. I have taken, and seen taken a large number of animals up to and including large Bull Elk & Moose with these 7's, and they work well. They obviously will kill deer authoritatively. We all tend to have favorites, based on personal likes, plus experience. The real fact is, they will both [25-06 & 7-08] work just fine. You need to choose what is best in your opinion.
