25-20 ammo

Get some dies and a reloading guide, and have at.

Brass is readily available. If you cannot find 25-20, use .218 Bee or 32-20.

Way easier to find ammo for than for the 'other' 25-20, the Single Shot, which is a bit of an orphan.

I have one full box of 50 here. Remington 86 grain soft points. A $20 bill will be all right. Next time Steve comes for a visit, I will send it back with him.

Hornady makes bullets for the 25-20, they are a 65grn Flat point. If I remember correctly. Its what I use when loading my 25-20's

The 25-20 is a sweet little round.
Mild sounding and gentle on the shoulder.
The M92 Winchester is a perfect match for it.

FWIW, at one time, there were two different 25-20 cartridges.
The older [now obsolete] 25-20 single shot, and the one still around, the repeater.

My youngest uncle used to hunt deer with his M92 25-20, and was quite successful with it.
He always used the 86 grain factory pill, and never took any shot over about 75 yards.
He said the deer seldom ever ran....just milled around for a few seconds after the shot, and fell over, dead.

Regards, Dave.

I like the 25-20 but never really could decide what it was made for. Too small to be a good deer cartridge; too big for gophers and too ballistically limited for varmints. But one of the old guys here explained it to me: he said it was the perfect "porch gun" and that's what he had hanging on a nail over the door for 40 years on the farm.

Good to hear you got some! I like my 25-20 for shooting beavers, its not to loud and seems to kill them no problem.

I picked up a few boxes on the labour day weekend gun show in Carp. Lots of the guys had a few random boxes of it laying around. It was $22 for 20 I believe?

I've had some trouble with the bullet barn bullets.
They are .259 caliber, and my Lee dies are .258.
So when I tried to load them it was shaving lead and crushing cases.
Had to buy a Lee resizing die and things seem to be OK all though I haven't loaded up a bunch yet.

well when i saw a box of 50, and it was 55 bucks, then the lady ripped the box i was like come on i want a deal now! im not an ammo collector, i like to shoot!! the stuff i bought was dominion, shoots pretty good too!

Are you flaring the case mouth before seating the bullet? It would help immensely.
