Anybody playing with this round? Any manufacturers out there making repro 1892's or the like, i think it would be a hell of a toy to pop the odd coyote with, but don't want to play collectors prices for a barely serviceable gun, or hunt with an expensive original.

Any info is appreciated

I shoot this round regularly. So far just at targets and gophers. I have 3 rifles in this caliber. An original Winchester carbine circa 1911, winnie 53 c/w 92 barrel and a marlin circa 1905. great round and can be loaded up but still a short range rifle. As far as I know there are no manufacturers plans to use this caliber in a new gun as the 25-06 seems to fill the gap.

Uberti makes an 1866(Yellow Boy) and 1873 Win in .32-20. Don't seem to be any .25-20's. Lots of 1892 reproductions, but none in .25-20. Kind of odd given the popularity of CAS.
"...Browning made Winchester 1892..." Discontinued in 1987. Came in .44 Mag and .357 Mag only.
"...the 25-06..." There's a huge difference between that and the .25-20.

years ago, an old guy I knew used a winchester 25-35 for his deer rifle ,and he said the 25-20 used to be popular as a ''farm rifle'', used for dispatching cows, pigs etc.

I have a Remington model 25 in 25-20. Its a neat little rifle I load for it too expensive to buy factory rounds. After 100 yards it starts too loose steam pretty quickly, but seem to be accurate

I have a great Winnie 25-35 and it does make a good deer rifle. Almost equal to the 30-30 in short distance shooting. Do not see many around in that caliber though. Brass was tough to come by. But the 25-20 does great for gophers. I was not comparing the power between the 25-20 and 25-06...just the caliber seems filled by the 25-06. Though it has been suggested that the 25-35 caliber will be available within a couple years.

i had my grand fathers original 92 sadel ring carbine 25 20 it was a great littel gun and had killed many bmany deer and yotes i would love to find anpother one DUTCH

I have a nice Savage Model 23 in 25-20. Have shot it a little with both jacketed and cast reloads. Surprising it shoots best with Win jacketed factory loads (so far). They are expensive! Haven't really spent a lot of time trying to find a good load. A friend has both a M92 rifle and recently had a M73 rebarreled in 25-20.( original barrel was kaput) He has the plain base RCBS mould and I have the gas check Lyman. Wish I had bought one of the Marlin 1894 Classics when they were being produced. Used one's are scarce and expensive. 25-20 with cast bullets is a fun, cheap to shoot center fire plinker.

i lust for an 1892 in .25-20, but never seem to find one i want to pay the asking price on. will probably bubba a browning repro model 65 witha new .25-20 barrel. figure the cost will give an essentially new gun for same price as a nice condition older one. i wan't one to shoot and hunt with not look at.

its a .25-20 single shot rifle made on a cooey shotgun action, according to the the fellah i bought it from it was a gunsmiths project. the barrel is a take off from a rifle, and its been fitted with william peeps. I debated mounting a 2.5-4x scope, but im doing pretty good with the peeps (right handed, left eye dominant, so i usually dont care for anything but glass). still need to get a sling for it. the gun is so small and light its a pleasure to pack around, and best of all, it still breaks down to the barrel, stock and forend without tools just like the origional shotguns.

ive only been shooting loads with unique in it so far, but have experiment with bullets in 75, 87 an 100 grain. its pretty versitile in loading, and apparently can take a jacketed 60 grain bullet to nearly 2000fps, or with a little charge of unique (4.5gr) and a 100 grain bullet, its shockingly quiet and great for plinking.

this winter ill use my light load to bag some rabbits
