My reloads were tumbling from my savage 250-3000 using 100 Nossler accubond. With the 1/14 twist barrel I was told to try a lighter bullet. Salesperson at my local hunting store sold me on 70 grain sierra Blitzking Bullets. He said that they would be great for hunting deer. Does anybody have experience with this bullet with deer sized game?

I plan on loading this bullet at 3000 FPS.

I'm not a fan of using varmint bullets for deer hunting. You could try a 100gr. flat base bullet like a Pro Hunter. I had a rifle that would tumble boat tail bullets but shot flat base bullets of the same weight fine.

Russ...

That bullet is very much on the light for caliber side for deer hunting. Penetration may be an issue. I am sure they would kill deer under perfect conditions and shot placement, but I am thinking not a good idea otherwise. The Accubonds were probably just on the long side. Get a flatbase 100 grainer and don't look back. Remington CL's or Hornady soft points would do the trick.

I have never played with one of these, but IIRC, the 14" was designed for the 87gr FB at 3000fps

using the stability calculators, it is not very stable, but THAT is what it was designed around...

go figure.

I think there's a lower weight gameking that would probably be a better bet for deer. The blitzking is more of a varmit round, likely to fragment quickly for maximum gopher mist. I've had good luck with the 100 grainers in my 257 but I don't have your slow twist issue.

Blitzking is a varmint bullet, your guns barrel was
Made to shoot the 87gr bullets to 3000fps, there may
Be some 90gr bullets to try , pro hunters, game kings
Are ex hunting bullets from Sierra
Speer had a light 25 cal bullet listed at one time
Suitable for deer

Take them back to the store and have the "salesman" shove the box up his ass. The BK is a good coyote bullet but your really don't want to use it on a deer.

Try a 100 grain flat-based bullet in your rifle. The Hornady 100 gr SP usually shoots well in the older 250-3000 rifles.

BTW the Nosler Accubond is a very long 110 grain (not 100) bullet with a boat-tail. I am not surprised it won't shoot in your rifle.

i was unaware that blitzking was a varmint bullet

From the Sierra web site .
''BlitzKing Bullets: These bullets are designed for explosive expansion in varmints and small game and with accuracy characteristic of the MatchKing bullets. The tips of these bullets are made of a proprietary compound, and the jackets are thin for enhanced accuracy and explosive expansion. The lighter bullets in 20 & 22 caliber are designed to be fired at muzzle velocities up to 4400 fps. The lightest 6mm BlitzKing bullet can be fired at muzzle velocities up to 4000 fps.''

just an FYI incase you hadnt seen their web page.
Good stuff to be found there.
Tight Groups,
Rob

I had good accuracy in my 1:14 twist .250 savage with the Speer hot cor 87 grain bullet, and it is built stout enough for deer. The Sierra 90 HPBT may work as well. Speer 100 psp/fb shot acceptably in my rifle, the Hornady and Remington 100's were barely useable.
