I have an Eatonia Boy's rifle in 25 Stevens long. It is a bolt action rifle, single shot, I believe this is a Cooey stamped for Eatons, it has a 1/2in sight dovetail rather than the 3/8in dovetail.

Any idea when this rifle would have been made? Is there anywhere that you can get a year range for these things?

Thanks

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. I know it was told as the ammo has not been standard since the start of WWII, but how old I am not sure. Grandpa bubba'ed it a bit, he made it #### on open and put dovetail inserts into the receiver to clamp on a crappy rimfire scope. It took me about a year and $100 to get original sights, I just want to shoot it every once in a while.

I did notice that the firing pin strike is weak, is this something that can be fixed or just #### it a couple times and fire until it goes bang.

You can clean the firing pin channel in the bolt really well, there may be some crusty old mung in there. Dig around with a fairly pointed object to scrape at anything that does not look like bare metal. Another possibility is that here is dried old mung in around the spring on the bolt. Disassembly? May be easy, may be difficult.

But do you really think it's the firing pin strike, or is the ammo starting to deteriorate? It's old.

There have been guys that converted these to Centerfire, and did some MAJOR forming down of Hornet cases to make brass that fits the chamber, but mainly, it's a pretty nice wall hanger unless you reline to a .22.

Cheers

I actually tested on an empty case from a 17 WSM, they are 2 thou different in case diameter but the same rim diameter, I am going to use these to make 25 Intermediate with soft lead 50gr airgun pellets and FFFg black powder.

I have a cooey 82 and the spring is tighter on the 82 then on this Eatonia.

No way is it worth changing this to anything else or converting, it was grandpas gun and it will stay as is, I will just try to make a few hundred rounds for it.

A few years ago , I was collecting stevens, and they made lots in 25 rimfire, I had a real nice box of dominion and many of them where dead

I suspect that, I have some that I have found for $1 each or so at gun shows, I have 5-6 longs and about a dozen shorts, I still have not pulled the trigger on any ammo yet, it is going to be an interesting day, lost grandpa a few years back now and he used to talk about that gun and asked me about ammo for it since I was about 10, ha ha, I never shot it with him.
