Hi Guys
Looking at getting a 25 WSM or 25 Pronghorn(same thing different name), it is basically a 270wsm or 300wsm necked down to 25 cal.
I like the looks of them, close to 257bee speeds without weatherby brass. Shorter bolt throw, and you know cooler because everyone doesn't have one.
Anyone have any info? Good, bad or otherwise.

WSMs are ridiculous. Stay with something like a 25-06 if you want to stay with the .25 caliber. Much better resale value, and a much more logical cartridge. You’ll also get at least 4 in a magazine, whereas you usually would only get 2 WSSM. Not to mention WSM rounds are difficult to find and brass is ridiculously expensive.

I recently found brand new 7mm WSM Hornady brass for quite reasonable prices. I can fit 3 in the mag too.

I can't speak to the 25 WSM but I would imagine it's hard on barrels. Really though whatever floats your boat. It should be a lazer beam and will be fairly unique in that not many other people will be shooting one. I am a fan of the WSM and SAUM cases.

The .25 WSM is a wildcat I find very interesting and may build when my .300 WSM needs a new barrel.

The Short mag naysayers fail to see the short mags are here to stay. The 300 and 270 are not going anywhere so brass will never be rare.

The one thing I have noted is that most accounts of the 25 WSM seem to indicate that they can be tricky to load for as pressures can go from reasonable to over the top quite quickly. This is reportaby the reason that Winchester failed to introduce the round as a factory loading after they played with the concept for a while.

I have had bad luck with Winchester and Federal wsm brass. The necks are thick and crack after a few firings. Nosler or Norma brass is likley better but pricey.

I absolutely love my 25-06. It has knocked down a couple of moose, 2 black bear, 1 caribou and plenty of bullseyes on paper. Good barrel life, high speed, lots of brass and not too common either. I know lots of hunters, and only 1 other guy had one. ( he lost it when his boat sank in a storm) . I always found the wsm rounds to be kinda hard to feed and were finicky with accuracy. Your mileage may vary.

I would look into the 25 SST if I was you. It is a Sherman Short Tactical which will work out of a short action. Also if you are doing a new 25 Cal look into getting a fast twist barrel to shoot the new 131 gr Blackjack Bullets, these are changing the 25 Cal. For Info go to Sherman Wildcats website. You can also call Rich he is very helpful. I am in the process of putting together a 6SST and a 7SST. I think with some research you will see that the Sherman shorts give the most performance out of a short action without limiting COAL. Was a post yesterday over on LRH where a guy had pushed the new 131 Blackjack to 3350 fps with his 25 SST. Also ADG is making some great brass for the Sherman Short line.

I have had 25-06 and as much as I like them i want something different.
Not wanting a bee is I have had them as well.
The wsm is easy to get brass, and the dies are easy as well(no weird custom dies)
270 and 300wsm are not going away anytime soon, so brass should never be a problem. I have never bought a box of factory rounds for any gun I own, so not being able to by factory round is not a issue. Also the claims of burning the barrel out to quick, well its got less powder than a 257 bee so I can't see it burning out a barrel any faster, and I have never burnt one out on a bee, so that is not that big of a issue.

Have you looked at the 2Fity Hillbilly?
Basically a 25 Creedmoor. Simple as necking down the 6.5 Creedmoor brass (sourcing brass will not be a problem).
Also duplicates the 250AI specs, with easier to obtain brass.
3100 fps with the Hdy 110 gr ELD-X and a load of IMR 4451.
Accuracy and brass and barrel life supposed to be very good.
No need to machine an extra divot into the magazine follower to deal with feeding issues on the WSM case.

Not as fast as the 25WSM, if speed is what you are looking for.

Yes but if I use 6.5 Creedmoor brass i would have to grow a man bun and start drinking lattes.lol Just can't bring my self to do that.

Its no longer called a man bun. That could be offensive. Its now referred to as the millennial mullet

Either way 25s rock. There is the 25 shooting times westerner as well the 25 banshee

If brass is your only issue..
Use 7mm brass .
Cheaper the the weatherby stuff..
On the other hand ,, it is norma brass,, you get what you pay for with this hot rod of a cartridge roy developed ..
I'll keep my 257 bee ,, and load that brass hot..
Hunting rifle gets shoot 8 times a year anyhow.. peanuts

Long live the laser
