Hello everyone , I'm back for a bit of advice. I have some Hornady 250 gr. XTP projectiles. I also have CFE pistol and trail boss powder. I found load data for CFE and these projectiles on hodgdonreloading , but can't find any data in my Hornady manual for either powder. Am I good to follow hodgdonreloading data for CFE and 250 XTP , in my Uberti .45 LC? And is there anywhere you can find data for trail boss and .250?gr XTP or is it not a good idea to not use the trail boss and 250 gr XTP at all? Would the data for 250 gr lrnfp and trail boss work with the 250 gr xtp? So , I've loaded the 250gr xtp and 5 grains of trail boss. I hope they shoot as nice as they look..image.jpg

You're GTG with the data from Hodgdon's site, as the pressure is between 10,400 PSI (min) and 13,300 PSI (max) for the CFE Pistol.

For the .45 Colt cartridge, 14,000 psi is the maximum pressure as measured by the relatively new piezo-electric transducer method, or 15,900 cup as measured by the older copper crusher method, so you're within the accepted margin of safety for them for all modern .45 Long Colt revolvers in good operating condition.

Now.....if you had a Ruger Blackhawk, Old Vanquero or Freedom Arms, or T/C, you could safely load to 30,000 CUP of pressure, which is almost double the "regular" .45 Colt load and approaches .44mag pressure (or thereabouts)

I have an Uberti SAA with the 7.5" barrel and I load CFE Pistol in it. 8.4g - 8.6gr under 250gr Campro plated or 250gr hard cast

I thought so , but just wanted an opinion . I'm thinking I should also be able to load the 250 xtp with trailboss , using the 250 LRN data?

Don't exceed the pressure max, but I see no reason why not. Trail boss is not a high pressure generating powder and 700fps or so should give you a nice, accurate load.

Here's what I found for cast:
250 GR. CAST LRNFP---Powder: IMR Trail Boss---Diam:.452"---COAL: 1.600"
start = 4.5gr @ 606fps @8,800 PSI, max = 5.8gr @ 727 @ 12,700 PSI

With a bullet seated, you should only be able to get 5.8gr of TB in the case anyways, and a load of trail Boss right up to the bullet base (you should NEVER compress Trail Boss!) will give you only about 700 fps, so you're still GTG.

You could also check out Quick Loads and see what you turn up.
