$2500 budjet to get started in precision shooting.

Well I buy my Sightrons from the US so I'm still out of luck. LOL... but thanks for the clarification.

Unfortunately, you are pretty much SOL unless that US company that suggests they properly exported the scope to you will help you reimport then reexport that scope, if warranty work is necessary.

You will find out real fast if that US company actually did any proper paperwork if you ask for help..... See an ITN number on your box or paperwork?

This is US law that is causing your headache.

On the up side, so few Sightrons actually need any warranty help so you may never see this as an issue.

If there is any significant difference in price between US and Canada sale, just think of that difference as your extended warranty cost....

I just picked up a Rem 700 Police in .308. I wanted to get a SSG 3000 but I wasn't able to find one for $1800.

None the less. I think I'll be happy with this.

I'm hoping I get a chance to swing by Alberta Tactical this week to get a scope for it.

But I likely won't get a chance to shoot it for 3 weeks.:bangHead::bangHead:

Which one is a better rifle among these ones?
700 sps tactical long range, 700 xcr long range, 700 xcr tactical, tikka t3 ctr, or ssg3000?

So I went up to AT to get a scope. They installed a Sightron SIII 6x24 MOA scope, with AT rings and base.
I finally got a chance to put a few rounds through it yesterday. Shooting conditions wernt great, windy and sleet. I also had my rambunctious seven year old son there helping to distract me. But I at lest got it zeroed at 100 yards, and blew up a few pop cans.
I only got to shoot 10 rounds. I was mostly out 4x4ing, I only brought the rifle to sight in. Sheldon at AT did an excellent job of mounting and bore sighting it. At 100 yards it was up and left by 1". On my second shot it was bang on.
I'm planning on going to go back to AT and get a few more things done. I had a pretty hard time with the trigger. It's just too heavy. On every shot I made, as I was squeezing the trigger all I could think about is "why hasent it fired yet?". So a trigger upgrade is definetly in its future. I might have them bed the rifle too, I'm just not sure if I want it bedded in this stock. I may want to upgrade that aswell. And I want a tactical bolt knob installed.

Here it is with scope

My next purchase is goin to be a bipod. Any suggestions? I was thinking of getting an Atlas.

If your still thinking about budget, a Harris would do you just fine. I've never owned an atlas so I can't vouche for them. Getting them to bed the stock wouldn't hurt or better yet, you could do it yourself. There are lots of threads/YouTube videos to help out with that. As for your trigger, get a timney 510!

Check out LRA bipods as well, they cradle the rifle instead of having it sit high on top of the bipod.

My first entry into the game is a used T3 sporter in 308,harris bipod,buris base n rings,3 x 15 x 50 black hawk scope ffp,under 2k,now good dies,lapua brass and bullets,still under 2500.

I vote for the SSG 3000 as well. It may go little over budget with a nice scope but you don't need to mess with it. I am running mine completely stock, even took the ugly flash hider off.

I can get half MOA groups (when things are going well) and I'm not a very good shot.

Buy a remington 700sps varmint. You get a 26" heavy barrel

Bought mine on sale under $600

You say you want to ring a gong at 600 for now... The above rifle will do that all day long. I can't speak for Savage, never had one and don't plan to get one but most of the ones I've seen do shoot well for the money. Good luck.

Edit: and I'm too late I see
