A lot depends on the twist rate of your bbl. If it's slower than 1 in 10, you may not be able to shoot anything accurately that's heavier than 90 grains, maybe 100 grain flatbase.
As far as pelt damage, I feel for you. That can be an extremely difficult comprmise.
It's been my experience with coyotes, that bullets passing right through without expansion, usually run away to die unfound in heavy cover.
If you can make good heart or neck shots that may not be a problem, but it's unusual for them to stand still long enough for precision bullet placement. Even when eating they are moveing all of the time. bearhunter
