50 cal Sabot low Drag with 45 cal 250 SST
Any one have any luck with these? I have been shooting these with traditions pursuit using BL 209 this year. I can hardly keep them on the page at 100 yards I tried all kinds of different charges they were even weighed for constancy. I Shot around 50 in total and no luck. I tried swabbing between shots as well then I finally went back to the 200 shock waves I used in the past with good luck and was back to sub MOA. So its diffidently the rounds. I wonder if its the easy glide sabots or the fact that the 45cal bullet is too short for the 1:28 twist. I will try and find some normal HP sabots and see if there is a diff.

I can hardly detect an accuracy difference between them and non-ez load SST's using the black sabots, or bulk XTP's using the black mmp sabots, at 100 yards in a 10MLII. I chono'd them during the summer and velocity is about the same between them and the black sabots as well. I was surprised, because they load so much easier. But hey, what works in one rifle may not work in another. Hopefully the others shoot better for you in that traditions.

Those are the ones I speak of. Any luck when you change the sabots?

Bagged black MMPs cured my accuracy issues, as well as the misfires I was getting in the smokeless Savages due to not getting the pressure up with 250s and 300s. Magnum sub bases didn't work for me, a tighter fit did.
Packaged bullets with sabots are frustrating, since the sabots seem to change according to whim. At least if you have few hundred bulk sabots, you don't have to wonder what the next 20 box is going to do to you. My way, it doesn't matter if the SSTs I get are in red or Black, old tight fitting black or newer loose fitting or just rolling around loose in the bottom of the range bag, everything shoots the same.
Someday the bulk packed SSTs will show up.

Another thing to watch out for if you're doing lots of shooting is that when the barrel heats up to any great extent, you will have problems with the sabot actually sealing the bore. That's where I use the black MMP ones, as they seem to do a better job. Accuracy out of my Savage is pretty good, and they shoot consistant. If you can find you used sabots on the range, check them over for signs of gas blow by. It should be a bit of work to seat the thing, if it's going down too easy, you will have problems.

My Tradition loves the 250 SST. I use the prepackaged ones with the sabot that has the pellet holder on the bottom. It's just a bit of extra plastic that you can slide you powder pellets on. I'm usually under 2 inches at 100 yards all the time.

The heating issue could be key. Don't go shooting 5 in a row and then expect to shoot another 5 right away. Remember, these are made of plastic and a hot barrel will affect how they work.

Point of interest for those that use the 250 SST. I recovered the one I used this year on my Mule Deer and the polymer tip. It weighed in at 243 grains. Pretty cool.
