Finally there is something that is aerodynamic for this great caliber!
B.C. of .496
S.D. of .267
I hope it doesn't take too long to be available this side of the border. I've heard alot of good things about these bullets (Accubonds in general) but have yet to use them.
I don't think it is unreasonable to get 2700fps with the 9,3x62 case. My Speer manual lists 2586 with the 270gr. I haven't played with this cartridge yet so I might be optimistic. Even so, it will be great out to 300 yards should anyone ever need to reach that far. I hope I don't but it would be nice to know you can and not need a full page of trajectory drop charts in your pocket.
What length is your barrel River Rat? The load in the Speer manual is 26". I am 2" short of that so I would guess I will be 80fps+/- slower than that. Usually any load they list I am alot more than that.
I was able to get 2460 in the 9,3x57 with no problems at all with the 270gr Speer.
This is good news! I will play with the 270 Speers for the time being as I have alot of them and then I will get a good idea of what to do with the Golden priced Accubonds.
I keep hassling Hornady to follow suit with their Interbond design for the 9,3 in both a high B.C. Accubond style as well as a heavy duty 286gr like they made for the 375cal. 300gr Interbond.
I hope others here do the same so they will expand their line.
Hornady is loading the 9.3x74R with what they call a 286 P-RP (pointed recoil-proof) with a flattish point like a Speer Mag-Tip. I'd think it';s only a matter of time before Hornady offers it as a component
There's nothing wrong with the 270 Speer, itworks very well.I shot a huge moose with a 270 speer and it performed perfect.I also shoot 250 Speer's from my 358 Norma, and i have shot a lot of game with it.never had one shed the jacket yet.
and on the 9.3 topic, I just received my pre-64 Model 70 barrel rebored to 9.3mm by Jim Dubell. I'm off to the smith to get it chambered and screwed back on.

I agree River Rat, this was the first fall I packed a 9,3. I only shot a Bull Moose with it but boy it was impressed! He dropped like a sack and never even tried to get up again. I was suprised since he was such a huge brute too. The jacket did separate which I was a bit suprised considering it was going quite slow. It was broadside through both shoulder blades but the blades themselves were very thin. It went through a lot of muscle too.
I have long been in favor of just shooting what ever is cheapest and would like to try some different projectiles. In 95% of the situations I get into the high B.C. won't be needed, a round nose or semi spitzer would be just fine.
At the same time should I get really cocky and take this rifle for my next Antelope hunt I won't feel unprepared for a long shot either.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, if they work up there they will surely work here!

rgv, you must tell us more! Did you just bore the barrel and leave the rest origonal or are you going all out. As far as I'm concerned there's no curbing here! We need pics!
On a side note, I was playing with my RCBS dies, necking up 06 brass to compare measurements with the Norma 9.3x62 brass I have. I didn't realize how much farther ahead the shoulder is on the 9.3 Norma case. It look more like a 280 Ackley necked up to .366! I am suprised I never came across headspace issues from other folks doing their fireforming.
it started with a 1952 std weight 30-06 with a cracked stock and a frosty bore that I picked up from Epps for $400.
Whe I got it, the exterior metal was very very nice, I was tempted to try shooting it, but decided to get it bored to a 9.3 (since some bottom feeder beat me to a nice zg47 in 9.3x62 )
Originally I was thinking 35 Whelen, since we all know M70's should be whelens and mausers should be 9.3's, but the chamber condition was less than pefect, so a 9.3 was a better choice since it would clean up the chamber completely, as well as allow me to lap the lugs, which would alter the headspace too much for a straight 35 whelen concversion.
Got my Lapua brass, rcbs dies, and just ordered some 286 partition seconds for $19.95/50. Just have to hassle barry into speeding things up at his shop.

i'm sure you will be pleased with your 9.3,a very underated cartrige.Yes you are right its not just a 30-06 necked up the shoulder is futher ahead and less body taper. To properly make 9.3 from 06 you should neck it up to .375 then neck it back down to .366 and make a new shoulder so it will headspace correctly. But 9.3x63 brass is easy to get so its more work then its worth.Let use know how it groups, haven't seen one shoot bad yet.
