.257 125gr flat base bullets and H4831SC

Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone would have some load data regarding the combo that I have indicated in my title. I want to try these bullets in my .25-06. Any info is greatly appreciated.
 
Those are very mild loads. The best powder I ever used for the 25-06 with 120 gr bullets was H870 and magnum primers. Velocity easily exceeds 3200 fps with great case life.

I would start at 47gr of IMR 4350 and work up to 51gr. IMR will likely give you more velocity at lower pressures.

There's one 120 grain H4831SC load on Reloader's Nest. Reduce by 10%. Five grains won't make a lot of difference. A bunch of 125 grain data on Steve's Pages. No H4831SC though.

I could be wrong but I assumed that the velocity created by either of these powders would be pretty even with the 4831 creating less pressure being that it is a slower burning powder.

Thanks for the line on Steve's pages. I see he has used 45gr of H4831 as a starting load and stopped at 49gr. No mention of any 4350 H or IMR.
 
I'm using a much slower powder than H4831 in a 25-06 even with 120 gr. bullets and getting good performance. The combo is 120 gr. Partitions over 55grs. IMR 7828 for 3280 fps. This out of a Ruger 1B, 26" bbl.
Accuracy is in the WOW range.:D
This is my 3rd 25-06, and I've tried powders like
H4350, H4831, Norma MRP. IMR 7828 is the best performer of the bunch with heavy bullets at least in the #1.

I think the slower powder would require slightly more volume to match the velocity, but doesn't really matter, as they would be within a grain anyway. Use whatever one shoots the best.

That is fast. I'm expecting somewhere around the 2800fps mark with the 125's.

Yeah, I know it is. But there are no pressure signs at all; case life is good, primer pockets tight after several reloads etc.
Ejector tuned to just lay the empties nicely on top of the safety, and that's where they sit after every shot. And above all it is a very accurate load.
 
120 gr Partitions, Hornady HPs, and Speer spitzers can all be driven in excess of 3200 using H870.

You need magnum primers to light it up and get good accuracy. Standard primers leave a lot of unburned powder in the barrel, and on the snow in front of the muzzle. :)

I had H870 in stock when working on loads for the 25-06, but kinda had it reserved for use in 30-378. Got as far up the list as 7828 and decided to leave well enough alone.
It's an interesting observation though. Just from memory I don't think H870 looks like the ultimate powder in many manuals; if it had I think I would maybe have tried it.
I've never tried anything other than Federal 215s with powders like H4831 and slower, or with ball powders.
H870 was a preferred powder for 200 gr. bullets in the 300Wby too, but in mine it came through about 100 fps slower than the book number (around 2900) and I didn't want to push it any harder.
