Good evening all, I’m trying to find a load for my 257 AI that could shoot inside 3/4” with the 115gn nosler balistic tip silver tip( or any bullets in that weight range)
So far with that bullet I can’t seem to be able
to go less than 1” at 100m, I tried two different powders with about the same velocity and the same size groups. Found a load that seems promising using H4831sc seems a bit better than H4350, tried different sitting depth and the best I can do is an inch at 100m(see pictures). I’m not sure what else I should try.
I know the rifle can shoot 3/4” or less with 75gn a max…

The barrel is a custom for sure but no idea who did the work or where the barrel is from. As for twist rate I didn’t measure it since it shoots the 115gn nosler partition quite good I thought it would shoot those even better since the partition are not renown to be an accurate bullet!

Sometimes the partitions shoot better than their pointier brethren. - dan

From my experience, the nosler BT are not very accurate. I would try an other similar bullet.

I thought I was the only one who couldn’t shoot ballistic tips into cloverleafs! My 257 ‘bee prefers the 110 Accubond seated deep, 115 bt’s no bueno.
I shoot flat based 120 grain speers out of a 1A Ruger in 257 AI,
If that is the bullet you want to use I’d take that 1 1/2” group and hunt.

I was never happy with accuracy from heavier bullets in my 25-06's...They all shot the lighter bullets real good so I split the difference and went with the 100gr Nosler partition and never looked back...Although those new super duper high BC A-Max Hornady 138's have me thinking about a whole new quarter bore rig...HA.

Hmmm thanks guys! I wanted to shoot some accubond, but I can’t seem to find any anywhere.
I don’t think I want to go lighter than 110gn for up here for our big games animals.

Well just found some accubond 110gn so ordered 2 boxes!! Thanks guys !
Damn it is frustrating to try stuff wasting valuable components to find out they just don’t work that great!

I've often bought bullets and components to try and been disappointed. All part of the game. Though I have thought in the past that maybe we need a reloaders swap meet so we could try other things at least cost. - dan

I know I’m not the only one on here that has bought rifles to burn up components.
Once in awhile you’ll land on a load for a rifle first time out that is hard to improve on. That’s almost more disappointing than the finicky ones.

retumbo in front of a large rifle primer is the ticket for Berger 115’s in mine… magnum primers, I think, cause powder bridging at the neck - suuuper high pressures long before any velocity
