I'm considering buying the next rifle in that caliber.
I know it is a good performing caliber and quite popular, however the supply of factory loaded ammo is not that diversified, most available ammo is in 100 and 120 gr.
I don't mind reloading, however I'm seeking a second opinion from you guys who may or might have used that caliber: is it a good choice? deer and coyote and the eventual groundhog.
Thanks for your input.

5 whitetails with a 25/06 from 50 to 280 yards with a 120gr Hornady HP @3000fps. Great cartridge !!! 257 WBY 6 whitetail from 100 to 440 yards , same bullet but @ 3250fps. I never recovered a bullet, through and through.
I would shoot elk, moose, sheep and goats with it too. :D

I know a few local .25-06 fans that don't stop at deer and coyotes, but also take moose, elk, sheep, caribou & bears with no complaints.

(anybody got a shiny Model 700 BDL in .25-06 they are lookin' to part with? A buddy is wanting one and he gots cash)

I doubt you could find a finer rifle for deer and coyotes. Load a cheap 100gr bullet for practice and varmints, and a good one for hunting, and you're set for darn near any animal you can find on this continent.

25-06 is a good cartridge if you can't find a 6.5mm. I prefer the 'start out slower and end up faster' ballistics of the 6.5 compared to 25

Lots of 6.5x55 in retired military Swedish Mausers; not sure how many new NA guns in this caliber though. Availlable in contemporary european guns, i.e. Sako & Tikka.

In a Rem 700 I shot gophers to moose. It is not a moose gun. It did a 1 shot kill on the only moose but its not a good choice. It is loud and if you pick the wrong bullet it will eat a lot of meat. I have killed many deer & bear with mine and it shines for those animals.

Just started with my 25/06 rem, but I have fallen in love. Its exactly what I wanted. Mild recoil, a lot of range! I even saw a 60 grain bullet for it the other day. With diversity like that(60-120 grain/gophers to moose) what else do you need?
