So I bought a .257 on w whim...and am stuck on what to do...part of me is sayign to run 80 grn ttsx at 3800+...and have a laser...but I worry that on windy days that what I gain in trajectory, I loose in wind drift...so to solve the wind part, I am interested in the 115 Berger...but I'm not sold that way either...as part of the reason to have a .257 is to go fast...

A couple of inches of wind drift @ 500 is no big deal! if you want to shoot 80 grain bullets, and your gun will do it, shoot them! 3800+ should be a slam dunk! My 240 Weatherby is shooting an 85 grain nosler partition @3615 fps (10 shot avg, 28 fps spread) into 3/4" at 100 m. The banjo string trajectory is real cool! Enjoy your 257!:)

I was getting about 3300 I think out of 110 accubonds and I figured those were my best bet for drift and drop. If I was to use anything else it would be the 120 partitions. I got the 100 tsx's to about 3500 I believe. They shot well but I'm not so sure that they always open up on close shots.

In the end, it probably won't matter, as it'll likely just be used to shoot a 150# spike buck at 80 yards...but that's why I kinds shy away from the Bergers...as there's a few horror stories floating around about them when their run too fast...perhaps I should split the difference and run a 100 grn ttsx.

i ran the 115 tsx the first year i used my 257 and went to the new 100gr ttsx. ill be running those for a long time. the bergers open up a big hole even when they are starting out at 2800-2900 fps.

Mine loves 120gr Nosler Partitions, 69gr IMR 7828 @ 3250fps, 115's @ 3350fps (24" barrel). Shot a whitetail at 440yds -rangefinder- with the 120. Held about 10" high with a 250yd zero. Flat enough for me and punches all the way through. 7 deer to that load so far, one shot each.

My 2 cents :)

I was thinkin the same as you. I bought some 80gr and 100gr ttsx. The 100gr shot the best so thats what I am using for this season. I will go back and try the 80gr bullets again. It should be an awesome coyote load. My sons 243 with the 85gr tsx smashes moose bones so the much faster weebee load will take out anything I hunt with it.
