Can anyone offer some potential pitfalls (I am aware of the benefits)to owning a rifle that has been "Ackley Improved". It's a .257 Roberts I believe that it has the 40 deg. shoulder. I am wondering about headspacing issues, fireforming, neck sizing, case life, accuracy, barrel life...
Any comments?

i have a couple of ai. the nice thing about ackley is to fireform just fire an original round and you have an ackley. if the chamber has been cut properly there is no headspace issuews. caselife will be longer as the blown out case grips better and streches less. barrel life is unaffected as your only burning about 5% more powder. ai cases are very easy wildcatts to work with as no special case forming is required. you will need a fl sizing die even if you neck size. eventually you will have to set the shoulder back for easy chambering. sinclairs is a good sourse of dies.the 257ai can aproch 25 06 velocitys in a short action. its a sweet round.

I had one, but honestly don't see the sense when you could just shoot a 25-06 and be done with it. If you want a wildcat, find one that does something that can't be duplicated off the shelf.
