257 roberts

The 257 Rbts. is an excellent cartridge. Easy to reload for, just 25 cal. bullets and brass. Can't find brass just use 7x57 brass. What took away it's top of the chart popularity was the 243 Winchester, another great cartridge.

I find that 7mm Mauser brass is hard to find as well. I've used 6mm Remington brass a lot because it used to be quite common. It's getting harder to find too.

I was suppose to inherit Win70 FWT in 257 Roberts but his daughter who just happens to be my ex fiancé is dragging her heels passing it on to me. Do I sense some lingering resentment? lol

I have all the other calibres around the 257Roberts but am keeping my eye on EE just in case someone is silly enough to sell a WinFWT in that magic 25cal. Cheers !!

Hi
Gobles firearms in Ontario has or had a win 257 xtr fwt for sale
Looks to be fairly mint

A couple years back I saw two bags of new REM 257 R brass priced at $39.95 I jumped on them like a fat kid on a SMARTIE.

The new Nosler 257 brass is just TOO dear for my pocketbook.

So far I've had no problem finding brass or ammo. That was a few years ago at gun shows and LGS, but unfortunately, it appears, those days are over. Both 6mm and 257 rbts were formed from the 7x57. If you're unable to find brass, apparently, 257 brass can also be formed from 30-06 cases. Run them thru a 7x57 die first followed by a 257 rbts die. A bit of trimming of course but once you have them it's worth the procedure.

If I see brass I buy it. Currently around 500 or so.
With 3 rifles and dedicate brass for each rifle and cycle 100 for each rifle and a couple 100 or more on reserve.
Sorry I have a lot of brass.
Now lets talk about factory ammo...

I've been using R-P brass in mine for years. With annealing and minimum resizing it has been very good brass. Reasonable loads help as well.

I have had a number of .257 Roberts rifles... my two favorites were a Ruger M77 Ultralight and a Ruger No.1... my kids and I shot a few whitetail with them. When I streamlined my collection, I got out of .257 cals completely, my 6.5mm's had all of that covered and more... but I still have a thing for X57 case cartridges.

R-P is all I used in the Bob... never any issues with that brass. In 6.5X57, 7X57, 8X57 and 9.3X57, I mostly use European or Eastern block brass... never any issues with that either... I do have a preference for Norma X57 brass cases, but don't ask me to justify that preference, because I could not come up with a reasonable defense of that position... I just like it. PPU always held up well for me too.
