Hello all,

I have a .257 Weatherby Magnum on the way. Hoping to use it for deer and black bears. Looking for tips on load combinations or 115 grain or larger bullets. SST's or TSX maybe? Who is using what and with what kind of results on game? Accuracy MUST be MOA or better. That is my little rule...

257

I use 70.5gr. of Retumbo with a 115gr partition a very accurate load for my rifle, this is a MAX load in my rifle so you should assume all the loads given here are, find a starting load from a manual and work up to what your rifle likes.

That rifle on the way to you.....is it a Weatherby or one of the new Rem 700s

In my rifle, best accuracy so far is with 63.0 gr IMR 4831 and a Hornady 117 gr RN bullet (#2550). I am using CCI 250 primers in all of my .257 Wby loads. It seems counter-intuitive that a round nose would out-perfrom sptizers, but so far that has been my observation.

I do have some loaded with 115 gr Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertips, and some with Nosler 110 gr Accubonds, (both with H4831SC) but have not shot them yet.

I think the best advice you have recieved here is the fact that you will need to experiment to see what YOUR rifle prefers........

Weatherby Vanguard, blued/synthetic. I mounted a 4-12X40 Bushnell Elite on it. Went out to the range for 9 hours on Friday. Had 2 boxes of Weatherby ammo. 100 grain spire points and 120 grain Partitions. Had 1.2" best group with the 100 grainers and .9" best group with the 120 grain Partitions. Now I have some brass to reload and I am going to try the 117 grain SST. I chose them over the 115 grain Barns TSX flat base as the BC is much higher. We will see. I am going to charge the loads with H1000. The trigger is creepy on this rifle. I have read that the sear adjustments on these triggers is tricky, so I was thinking of a replacement aftermarket trigger.
