257 weatherby magnum

I like your style Dogleg. Own one of them as well. Shooting Nosler Accubonds 110 g haven't put them thru the chrony yet tho.

Beauty Deer! I've wanted a 257 for a while now and plan on purchasing one once work turns around. I'll probably get into reloading at the same time. Is there any significant quality difference between the Hornady, nosler or weatherby/ Norma brass ? I'd probably spend the extra money on 257 brass vs resizing another caliber to start.

I'm planning to take a .257 for a utility rifle for an upcoming deer cull, with Ballistic Tips as the control
load and probably 80 grain TTSXs at 3950 fps for comparison. Care to place your bets?

L1...........two points.

1) Not everyone is a meat hunter and not every animal hunted is destined to end up on a plate. Velocity has many positive aspects as well as the downside ones you have stated.

2) I drive my Ferrari to the corner store and the liquor store solely because I have one and I can..........:d:d:d:d:d:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Part of me says you'll lose a lot of petals on the TSXs, but I am not so sure that is going to make a lick of difference in the end results.

And c-fbmi, can you REALLY drive your Ferrari to the liquor store right now? Or is the weather still holding you back? lol

Norma and Weatherby are the same thing, Norma has loaded Weatherby ammo since forever. Nosler is probably Norma too, I never got around to weighing any, but Norma does make most of the Nosler stuff so it's a good bet.

I've necked down Winchester 7rem brass without issue, my son has been using the same 50 cases since he was 11. We use that to tell the difference between his and mine, not that it made a huge difference because we used to use the same load anyway. If you want Weatherby head stamp, its cheapest to just buy the cheapest spitzer factory loads; that can be found for in the mid 50s if you look around. You don't need 1000 of them. I got 260 once fired Weatherby for a buck apiece off the EE the other day because I needed a pile for a culling trip and expect to lose most of them, but I'm starting to think they last forever.

I keep hearing about soft Norma brass, but my experience has been the exact opposite.

Hornady brass in .257 Weatherby is good brass the price is reasonable when it comes to brass. I recommend it ad in some cases depending on the load and powder you can have more than 5 firings out of Hornady Brass
