257 Weatherby. Mark V or Vanguard?

I would recommend reading some of the LAW rifle threads on 24HCH. I doubt they will around much longer.

Really ?? Well I chose to ignore the crap on the 'fire and I couldn't be happier with my LAW.
Quality of workmanship, fit and finish on mine is excellent.
Mine is one of the smoothest feeding rifles I have ever had and the Bansner stock fits like a glove.
I have yet to do any load work but break-in loads using a clean after every shot procedure are producing very impressing targets and all I'm doing is firing at the same point with a clean and cold barrel.
Would I buy it again..... in a heart-beat and you simply cannot beat the service from Prophet River..

I have a VGII in 257 and would say, chuck the extra bucks and get the Mk 5.

I got one of the 70th Anniversary Vanguards because I'm a Wby fan, love wood stocks and just "wanted" it and 70th Anniversary MK 5 was a "no chance of getting one".
(and I wanted to hunt the rifle, so $1400 bucks worth of Vanguard WILL go to the field, 6K for the anniversary MK5 probably wouldn't :))

I could have got a MK5 Sporter for a few hundred bucks more than the 70th/VGII and if my sole purpose of buying the rifle was to have a 257 Wby, that's the route I would have gone.

The 257 Wby is already one of the "loudest" rifles out there and the slightly shorter barrel on the Vanguards doesn't help at all.

I bought a MK 5 Deluxe about a week a go, and got out shooting it for the first time today. The wood is absolutely gorgeous and the action is pretty slick too. By far the nicest rifle I have ever had. The vanguards are pretty nice too, just depends what you value in a rifle. I saved for a long time to get mine... and the juice was worth the squeeze!

I've got 3 Mark Vs and I'm not sure how many Vanguards. Although I haven't quite forgiven Weatherby for putting 24" barrels on the Vanguards it doesn't seem to make any difference in the field. There's pluses and minuses to both, but if price is a concern at all the Vanguard is the way to go. On average my Vanguards have out shot the Mark Vs, and frankly I like the design of the action better. There's a couple of things about the Vanguard that seem a little chintzy, and the Mark V is heavier than it has to be, but both work.

A ringing endorsement from you on a rifle with a 20 percent return rate doesn't surprise me at all. Lol.

Why should you care enough to comment.... its not your dollar.
If you believe everything you read on the 'fire that tells me about the level of your IQ..

Cry about the fire all you want. The fact remains that Rick Bin refused hush money from LAW to make threads involving their wares dissapear. Snipershide and LRH took the money....

Yeah right, I don't know where you find this crap.... or maybe you make it up.
I've met Mark Bansner twice and from what I know of Ed Brown neither one would tolerate BS like that.
You'd better get ready.... the school bus will be along soon..

Is there anything funnier than a broken down old pud with hurt feelers? Keep drooling on your special Olympics particapaction medals and telling yourself that your somehow relevant in any discussion pertaining to rifles.
