I've got one on the way, and I'm looking for some recommendations on loads for Manitoba whitetails. It's mostly open country shooting, so I'm leaning towards high bc boattails with lots of smash behind them.Any suggestions? Thanks .

My kid did OK with last fall with 100 grain ballistictips over 67 grains of IMR 4831.

going to be using 120gr partitions over 65gr RL22 CCI250 primers

I also have 100gr ballistic tips but I don't know how they hold up on a shoulder shot.

Hey Dogleg did you recover any of the bullets? any of them hit bone?

I have tried Doglegs load when I got my 257 Vangaurd.

Than Damd load drives tacks, I switched bullets to the 100 gr TSX added a few grains and it still drives tacks, just a bit quicker. I chonographed over 3700 fps with the TSX bullet.

You will not be sorry with IMR 4831 and I doubt you wil find a powder that will get the RPMs up to this one

We recovered all of the bullets. They stopped at the hide on the far side, and there wasn't much left of them. Most of the shots involved one shoulder or the other, so yes, bone was hit. I won't pick these bullets for moose, even though the rifle itself has killed a couple of them with Weatherby factory loads.

An exellent bullet is the 120 Hornady hollow point its tough and penatrates well, try a max load of IMR 7828 I get 3330 fps. I had one completly penatrate to whitetails at over 300 yards, I didn't see the smaller one standing behind the big one I was shooting for:redface:

I wanted to use 100gr TSX's but my order has been on back order for months so I picked up a box of partitions just in case the TSX's don't come in time....

Thanks for the reply dogleg!
