Longest shot I made was 565 yards on a mule deer using a 113gr chinchaga bullet. At that range it didn`t drop him but was dead by the time I got to him. When I skinned him out, the tip was off the heart and it got part of the lung. At 400 yards they drop without any trouble. Also great for shooting coyotes @ 400+

Any of the bigger, well constructed bullets would be adequate and then some. IMHO, the more money you spend on your bullet, the luckier you get shooting them. The .257 makes up for it's lack of bullet weight with high velocity, and they didn't call Roy Weatherby the "High Priest of Velocity" for nothing!
at anything over 200yds the 100gr TSX carries more energy then the Partition and will out penetrate the nosler as well.......257wby was designed to shoot 100gr pills at close to 3900fps. I find loading any thing heavier then 100gr takes away from what this rife was meant to be.
TTSX bullets are available at many stores in Alberta.Wholesale Sports,Russells,P&D,Bashaw,and others carry them.I just ordered 400 of them yesterday from Wholesale Sports,because they were the only store with that many in stock in the weight and caliber that I was looking for.

i would do a moose in at that range with a barnes/nosler/honady making the short trip.
With the right load, a 250-3000 is quite adequate for caribou at 250 yards. Actually, it does quite well at that range with factory ammo.

Try some 110 Accubonds ahead of RL 22. Fed GM215M primers.
Just read an article by Terry Weiland (who does not condone such) relating a much earlier magazine article by Roy Weatherby hyping the virtues of the 257. On an African trip in the 50's Roy took a considerable assortment of larger plains game, including a Cape Buffalo !
While most PH's (and some of the licensing countries in fact) wouldn't allow the 257 on any dangerous game, ( most have a .375 minimum) it is certainly quite capable. Many have used the 257 Weatherby satisfactrily for pronghorn, deer, moose and elk.
It will certainly be most adequate for Caribou out to 250 yards,
but then again, the 250 Savage & 257 Roberts 100-grainers would most likely be as well !) A well placed shot with a properly constructed premium bullet is key.

3753fps 15ft from the barrel SS Weatherby Vanguard 68gr IMR4831 not even at max and no signs of pressure people are going to 69.5gr in this cartridge and 3900fps is possible 100% with over loading. But all rifles are different what may develop pressure in mine wont in my buddies Weatherby and so on so always work up your loads....just because a book says max is 68gr and velocity is 3550fps does not maen thats the way it will be in every rifle.
