26 nosler in a r700

The 7mm Rem killed the .264 before it really got going. It must just kill Winchester that Remington basically necked up their own cartridge and bludgeoned them with it. I'm pleased with mine though, I've shot several groups at 500 with 120 NBTs that could be hidden behind a quarter. Maybe not the best long range bullet that ever lived, but midrange accuracy like that has got to make ya grin.

My next 6.5 is being built with a 1-8" twist, based largely on shooting up the heavier high BC bullets that my current .264 wasnt in love with.

Thanks for the insight guys, I'm pretty excited, I'm a journeyman machinist and rifle building had always driven me from the beginning.

I've been planning on shooting the nosler 142g accubond long range bullet because of the purely crazy bc it has, according to the Berger rifle twist calculator a 1:9 should spin it just fine as well as a bunch of other lighter bullets I have inputted. But I see a fair amount of 1:8 twist barrels, any recommendations? I don't see going to any more than 142g, because that is 30cal territory and even 142g is overkill for the monster white tail around these parts

Bullet choice is important. Back in the 70's I built a 6.6x300 for Terry McCracken (Benchrest bullet maker and shooter- long since passed away). He thought he would make up a very heavy jacketed 6.5 bullet for hunting with this beast. He over did the thickness and when he shot an elk at 600 yards it died but unfortunately the elk standing behind the first one did as well.

Try a couple of rounds in the magazine and see if they will feed up... they won't chamber but you should be able to see if they will feed as is... magazine length isn't a problem... the 700 is longer than many.

Hell - build a 6.5 x 300 Wby and have the hottest 6.5 out there... I built my first one back in the early 70's. They feed just fine. I still have the reamer.

You are going to want a 28 inch barrel in either case...

Just tried this little trick with 257wby ammo in my 7mm. I just ordered a Remington 700 in 257wby, and it's getting a dbm! ;)

I never seen it mentioned.
Doesn't the OP need the RUM bolt face and magazine to build a 26 Nosler?
7mm Rem Mag won't have the right bolt face or magazine?

Would be straight forward to take the barrel off a 7 or 300 RUM donor rifle.

Sorry, this is more of a side note, I want to change the 257wby to dbm, so to see if it would be possible to load the amp out of a dbm I tried 257wby ammo in a 7mm mag and pushed them out of the mag with the bolt to see if it would be possible

Sorry, I missed the last paragraph, 300rum has a .534 rim, yes I'm sure it would be a bit better when taking bullet seating length into consideration, if you need to seat your bullet way out there. Regardless I think that this 7mm is becoming a 264 win mag, I'll save the 26 nosler for another rifle. Thanks for your thoughts

You made a great choice.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited, my 257wby will probably arrive at the same time I finish the 264 win mag.
Is funny, up until about a year ago I sold every single r700 id ever owned, now I have 4, and don't think they will be going anywhere in the near future.
