26 Nosler ?

Full stock?

............... Three gun worldwide hunting battery..........300 WSM, 9.3 WSM and 416 WSM, all 20" full stocked in AAA fancy on a lengthened short Remington action with sights, PT&G Oberndorf bottom metal and low mounted Zeiss scopes.................

Awesome !! Now you ARE talking !! What a great idea !.. I'm in !

Full stock?

Hey, a 9.3 WSM might be a helluva cartridge in a 20" barreled full stock.....................HHHMMMMMMM !!!!! Kinda a big brother to a 350 RM.................270s at 2800 fps...........COOOOOOL !!!! I built a 375 on a 350 RM case in a Ruger short action
once, with an 18" barrel that did nearly 2800 with 270s, the WSM should do all of that................ Three gun worldwide hunting battery..........300 WSM, 9.3 WSM and 416 WSM, all 20" full stocked in AAA fancy on a lengthened short Remington action with sights, PT&G Oberndorf bottom metal and low mounted Zeiss scopes.................Won't quite be worldwide as the boltface won't accommodate the 234 Penguin...........

Bit of a tangent , sorry OP

I remembered - it is a fellow named Michael and here is the link the the .416 version - +2400fps with a 350gr bullet out of an 18" barrel. Overall length is 38" and it weighs only 6.5lbs. Sounds entertaining!

The 9.3 version pushes a 286gr bullet at 2550fps out of a 20" barrel.

The new Norma Magnums (.300, .338 and eventualy the .375) are based on a shortened .338 Lapua about the same lenght of the Ruger line.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Lapua just a shortened and reshaped 416 Rigby case?

1899...........ENTERTAINING is but one adjective that could be applied to a 6 1/2 lb .416 that drives 350 gn bullets at 2400 fps !!!!!

That's correct. The new .338 Norma Magnum is intended to be loaded to a MAP of 64 000 PSI (like most Norma Mag) to handle a 300 grains bullet without seating it way deep into the case with an OAL 3.681". The case capacity is only a tad above 6% short of the Lapua.

1899........don't understand what you mean by "kit"..........but regardless no I didn't. I built it on a short Ruger action that was a heavy barreled swift that didn't shoot all that well and I used a 375 CT barrel I got from another guy. I then made dies from a set of H&H RCBS dies of which I had a couple sets. I then cut down, slimmed and schnabeled the forend and completely refinished, bedded and pinned the stock. The finished barrel ended up 18". I cut the chamber with a 350 RM reamer (removable pilot) with an up sized pilot I made and then carefully cut the neck and throat with my 375 H&H reamer. It shot very well and is still kicking around Whitehorse killing moose every year from what I hear. I used 260 Parts and 270 Win power points in it, when I ran out of Parts and couldn't find anymore anywhere (this was the first year of the introduction of the 260 Parts and they were scarce in Canada) but I had several hundred power points I had bought from Ted (Why Not?).
I likely would have kept it as it turned out real nice but I got a hard on for a stainless mini 14 and the guy who had it really wanted the little Ruger thumper soooooooo........In retrospect I should have kept the Ruger bolt gun............

He built one on a SA Ruger as well and had a reamer and, iirc, a spare barrel set up for a Ruger too.

Having a 6.5x284 Norma and reading what the experts say on Accurate Shooter I wonder how long the throat will last on the new 26 Nosler cartridge? Apparently the 6.5x284 Norma will burn it's throat with as little as 800 rounds and the normal is usually 1000 rounds. Not much or anything at all is mentioned about the accuracy of this cartridge and only it's velocity. In theory Noslers Patriot will be a light firearm and that barrel will heat up quite rapidly after the first two shots...........well, it's the first shot that usual counts the most anyway.

Track..........I've said this before, what is shot out to the bench boys is just broke in to us hunters..........when after 1500 or so rounds their chosen baby opens up from .123 to .223, it's done. However there is another 10,000 rounds of sub moa to 1 1/4" shooting left in that barrel for the rest of us. And God bless them for it because I get a good supply of accurate barrels for cheap.

Agreed. Yea lots of those bench shooters commonly cluster a 1/4 inch of three shots at 300 yards and if it starts to open then a new barrel is replaced. Hmmmmm, I won't purchase a Nosler rifle but will have to find a long/magnum action for a custom built.......maybe.

Those photos with measurements just show the rim dis not body dia. It could be based on the 404 with the rebated rim used by Remington. It looks neat but i'm not sure I'll ditch other 6.5's for this one. They all work amazingly well.

I think they must have rebated the rim. The pic next to the 7 RUM makes both cases look very similar in diameter.

The word on 24hCampfire is that its based on a shortened 7RUM case. Apparently the dummy rounds shown on the SHOT show pictures actually had a 7RUM headstamp. Again, apparently straight from Nosler at SHOT: "Parent case is the 404, its essentially a shortened 7 RUM"

I'm really surprised as I never thought my simple question would start 10 pages of interest.
And to all who contributed both comments and information I say Thank - you very much !

Well there goes the easy brass from 300 WM, however I do have 50 7mm Dakota............Man a guy would have to move a lot of brass to make them from the RUM case, that would be a real PITA. Wonder who they've contracted to make their brass.......R-P....Fed....maybe Norma. You can sure as heII bet it won't be cheap..........
