I cannot understand why the 257 Wby and 7mm Rem Mag are lauded as awesome in all regards, but the 264 Win Mag is a "barrel-burner, and no better than the 270". They all share essentially the same cartridge and only differ by a few percent in bore diameter.
Please too, let's rise above the old myth that the 264 Win Mag "needs a 26" barrel". I have a 6.5-300 Win Mag with a 24" barrel, and 3300 fps is not difficult with a full case of a very slow powder like US869. I could still crack 3100 with a 20" barrel.
Its only the old boys that read to many magazines full of misinformation and ulterior motives from old fashioned gun writers. Guys that believed what they read and couldn't move on and writers that always felt the need to back some very basic ideas or a cartridge then ride it to fame and reputation. People are getting much smarter than this now and very few buy into the stupid myths and voodoo of the past gun writers. An example of this is the short mag craze. Remember when we were told that the short mags got more velocity for their case size and had less recoil. When's the last time you heard someone repeat that load of BS? The hype was debunked and the newer and smarter generation of riflemen were able to let it go and move on.
